About 3 months ago I signed up at OptOutPrescreen.com to stop receiving offers of credit. The offers kept coming.
Today I flipped upon receiving 4 credit card offers in one day (2 were duplicates; I guess they wanted to make sure I got them).
That’s when I checked the fine print on the OptOutPrescreen’s FAQ:
"While your name will be removed from the lists that Equifax, Experian, Innovis and TransUnion provide to businesses for the purpose of making you a firm offer of credit or insurance, you may continue to receive offers from sources that do not use Consumer Credit Reporting Companies to compile their lists."
Other ways you can be removed from credit card mailing lists:
- Sign up for the Direct Marketing Association’s opt-out service. This service opts you out of mailings from DMA members. Most large companies would be members of the DMA. Here are the ways you can opt out.
It’s time consuming. It’s frustrating. But in the long run you spend less time shredding and reduce your chance of mail being stolen, that can lead to identity fraud.
P.S. Two former tenants of my house received the same offers. I’m quite sure I have offers going to old addresses.
