How to Block the Latest IE exploit: iepeers.dll

How to Block the Latest IE exploit: iepeers.dll

By John Gable, Director

Microsoft just released an emergency security update that closes the iepeers.dll vulnerability. Get it by running a Microsoft Update or Windows Update (name depends on your operating system) on your PC. Click Start > Programs > Microsoft Update. For more information regarding this critical Microsoft update, read today’s Microsoft Security Bulletin.

The bad news is that hackers have known about this vulnerability and been exploiting it for weeks. The good news is that our advanced browser security, found in ZoneAlarm Extreme Security and ZoneAlarm ForceField, protected from this public vulnerability (iepeers.dll) all along.

ZoneAlarm recommends that you get this update from Microsoft.  If you want to have protection from future “drive-by-download” attacks like this, even before Microsoft patches the next vulnerability, be sure that ZoneAlarm’s browser virtualization is on. Go to settings from the ZoneAlarm toolbar or Browser Security panel, click Advanced, and check “Enable Virtualization”.
