As a (very) long term user of ZoneAlarm firewall, I am satisfied how it has worked on background, doing its tasks.

Now is there still possibility to install only the firewall part, since for now I do not want to chance my current antivirus software?

We will continue to offer a stand alone firewall

      • OK, where is the link to the stand alone firewall without anti-virus and why do you hijack my home page? I thought your tool was supposed to prevent stuff like that.

        • zonealarm ON

http://www.zonealarm.com In terms of the homepage change, we give users the option whether they want to have their homepage changed or not. It is up to the user to read before clicking next, next, next.

          • Well I love Zone alarm Firewall. I do not see the option to download the Firewall without first downloading the Antivirus. So I had to stop and cancel the download process. Is there any download Zone alarm feature/product that download Firewall only. What is the purpose of downloading Antivirus if a user does not need it at all. Simple is that I love Zone alarm Firewall but at the same time a user could like other Antiviruses.

          • zonealarm ON

If you visit our site http://www.zonealarm.com/ you will see we offer ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. We recommend, at the very minimal, to have an antivirus AND two-way firewall running on your PC at all times.

          • Why isn’t there a 64bit version? If there is, please link it.

          • zonealarm ON

All of our ZoneAlarm products will work on 64 bit.

People always saying that ZoneAlarm is junk. I was told this while on a Win7 forum by a lot of people and I said. If it;s junk howcome you look at the proof in the pudding that ZoneAlarm is better than all the other “top” antivirus and firewall programs like Mcaffee, and Norton and that Microsoft Security Essencials is a practical joke created by Microsoft? Half the time you have to manually update MSE even when set-up to automatically update and ZoneAlarm just does is it as soon as something new hit the Net? I love this program it’s still compatable while running MSE in win7x64. Keep up the good work.

    • Jacob ON

Well, that is because MSE updates only ONCE but Microsoft releases three updates a day. The sig updates you see in MS update are the optional two updates. To find out why just google the information.

ZA uses the Kaspersky engine which is partly why it does very well in malware detection tests. Remember that there is no such thing as “the best” AV.

You call MSE a practical joke but use it on one of your systems? Oh the irony. Microsoft got the right idea and also did an awesome job in creating a free product that maintains an ‘average’ detection ratio. They know what they are doing… after all, they have an advantage. It is their OS. ;)

If you are running ZAA+F, take note that it is HIGHLY recommended to not run two fully-functional AVs on a system.

  7. R Mayo. ON

I just installed the latest Zone Alarm update and it COMPLETELY broke my Eclipse IDE. I’m working here, and I can’t afford to have my tools broken… I’ve downgraded to the previous version and I’m willing to give you folks a few days to straighten out your new software. Is the new software not configured by default to ask me Block/Allow, by any chance?? I can’t figure out what else might be the problem.

    • zonealarm ON

There’s only been one version of ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall, so we’re unsure how you can go back to a previous version. Be sure to uninstall all other security software, even if they have expired, and reboot before installing ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. You also do no want to run more than one antivirus or more than one firewall software at the same time.

      • Jezzrel ON

I have installed ZoneAlam Firewall + Anti-Virus on my workstation with existing TrendMicro Officescan Enterprise Version and it works well, I had disabled the FW features on my Officescan…thats maybe the reason it works without conflict, :)

        • zonealarm ON

It’s best to run only one firewall and one antivirus on your machine. Running more than one of each will cause conflicts.

  8. Kevin ON

I doesn’t seem to matter which version of Zonealarm’s free firewall I install, the antivirus package is also installed. I want to keep Avast for virus protection and zonealarm for a firewall. Is this no longer an option?

    • zonealarm ON

ZoneAlarm offers both ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Firewall (http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm )

      • J White ON

I tried the FW + AV – for about 20 minutes – until I determined it offered no email scanning. Uninstalled the combo and then (after a reboot) installed the solo firewall plus a different free AV product. Everything is running great.

        • zonealarm ON

The purpose of our offering of ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall to the public was to give users basic security essentials that all PCs should have at the bare minimal. We’ve combined our two-way firewall with a robust antivirus engine together, so that users do not have to update two separate products. Rather, we’ve tuned these two bare minimal security features into one product, so that they run seamlessly together. And best of all, it’s FREE.

    by the way.

Zonealarm is a great program but I feel that the web installer sucks. Offline installer is 100000 times much better. We hope we could download the offline installer directly from the release history page (http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/information/znalm/zaReleaseHistory.html) instead of pasting the exact link in the forum’s, blogs etc.

    • zonealarm ON

Our Web installer is actually ~90 megs, while the full installer is around 260 megs.

      • longtime user ON

        I’ve been using ZA for 10+ years…

Is there an alternative to the web installer? I need to download a file that I can transfer and install on another computer. (I can’t go online to use the web installer because it doesn’t have a functioning firewall!)

        • zonealarm ON

You can find an offline installer here: http://bit.ly/MbL6mH Please read the instructions before installing.

          • Is the file here, “zafwSetup_102_078_000″ the new free firewall/antivirus combo?
I only ask because there is only a “fw” in the file name, and no “av” or other such reference to the antivirus module. Thanks much.

          • zonealarm ON

zafwSetup refers to the standalone ZoneAlarm Free Firewall. zaSetup refers to ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall

      Hi John,

We’re aware of this issue and are working on fixing the bug. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    • Ignotus ON

Same thing here regarding the antivirus advertising nag screens. I’m close to uninstalling Zonealarm firewall. I will be sticking with my current AV vendor, and the repetitive nags trying to get me to install the Zonealarm AV are getting old.

      • zonealarm ON

Sorry for the inconvenience. We are working on a fix allowing users to select the option to stop receiving the upgrade notifications. In the meantime, click on “remind me in 15 days” while we work on the permanent fix.

      • Michael ON

Agreed. Another very annoyed user getting repetitive ZA AV nag screens here. Sometimes there are two of them to close at the same time. I am not changing my AV provider. Please make these annoying nag screens stop.

        • zonealarm ON

          Hi Michael,

We’re working on a fix to allow users to “Never remind me again (about ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall). In the meantime, click on “remind me in 15 days”. Clicking on the X will not register any action prompted, and you will get that upgrade reminder sooner than the 15 days.

          • Well, freeware is eungoh if you are newbie in Internet and want just basic protection. But if you have some e-business, you’d better look at commercial products, that have development team, good support, frequent updates, etc. I use ob both of my desktop PC and notebook, and never regret about that small price paid for my protection. With all program features (effective firewall, antivirus engine, anti-spyware, anti-banner, anti-spam plugins)it looks really great.P.S. Look at .

Will ZoneAlarm Free (without the AV option) still be offered AND upgraded in the future?

Yes. We will continue to offer a standalone ZoneAlarm Free Firewall, as well as the ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall software.

  13. pritchel ON

Have used free fire wall for years with no problems but just installed free anti virus + firewall and my computer now goes slow due to vsmon using so much memory 292,868K/B permanently and 50% + CPU at times when downloading on the net. If you can’t tell me how to avoid this I’ll have to revert to my previous programme and advise friends to avoid this freebe and its possible problems.

    • zonealarm ON

Please make sure you aren’t running more than one antivirus or more than one firewall software at the same time. Doing so will cause your system to blog.

Since I installed the new free version 2012 firewall plus antivirus, some programs won’t work properly like Rocket Dock and Desktop Tray on XP. Perhaps more?
Haven’t tried it on Windows 7 yet.
I downgraded to version 10 with a backup, things where Ok again.
It’s definitely Zonealarm, checked it twice.
Yes it’s annoying to see that upgrade popup time and again.
Having Avast antivirus re-installed I don’t need a second antivirus which is n’t running properly. Perhap it’s a bug or a setting which corrupts something?

Have been happy till now with the Firewall.

    • zonealarm ON

We just installed the latest Rocket Dock 1.3.5 with ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall (default settings) and it works fine: http://i48.tinypic.com/2iijyp3.jpg

In terms of the notification, we are aware of it and are in the process of allowing users to “never remind me again ( about ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall).

I am a satisfied user of ZA Security Suite 5.5.094, what will this free upgrade provide that I do not already have. I know 5.5 is old but still seems to do the job well, why should I change?
How long will this “free” version last, in 6 months or 2 years will I be forced to buy the then latest copy?

  16. Les Kaye ON

Have been using ZA free firewall for years. Purchased Zone Alarm firewall + antivirus PRO (the $9.95 promotion sounded pretty good). Had been running Microsoft Security Essentials as anti-virus and turned off its “real time protection” and “schedule scan” settings. Is that enough to remove MSE as a competing anti-virus? I ask because my PC seems to have become “clunky” since installing ZA PRO.

  17. no email protection in free version? If not, what should I install for email protection?

  18. Barb ON

Does zone alarm have a version for tablets?

  19. Andy Kirk ON

Zonealarm free firewall and antivirus is an excellent program but IMHO it is too heavy. Great protection but too heavy on resources.

  20. John ON

I have used Avast AV and Zonealarm free firewall for many years on many computers. Zonealarm free AV+firewall caused a Fujitsu/Siemens Amilo running WinXP Pro SP3 [supplied with Vista Home Premium] to freeze repeatedly to just the desktop wallpaper with no icons, with a moveable cursor but with no response to mouse clicks or keyboard. Zonealarm free AV+firewall claimed that its AV function was switched off because of the presence of another AV product. Uninstalling ZA and re-installing with ZASetup_101_079_000.exe solved the problem.

  21. rony ON

I tried to use it for a while, but it used 100% of my CPU power every time I turned on the computer. I finally removed it and I am free, it seems they have a lot to learn before they enter the home market.

    • zonealarm ON

Please make sure the system you are installing ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall meets the minimum requirements. Also, it us crucial that you uninstall any third party security software that came pre-installed on your PC (ie. McAfee, Norton, etc…) AND reboot before attempting to install ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. You should only run ONE antivirus and ONE firewall at the same time on your PC.

Click on the ‘Enable’ button, then make sure “Enable On-Access Scanning (recommended) is checked.

  23. Kurt ON

I have also been unable to get ZoneAlarm Antivirus to scan. And I’ve been unable to get it to update. And it’s been taking over my computer. After reading the CNET reviews, I’m ready to ditch ZoneAlarm altogether, even though I’ve been a satisfied ZA firewall user for years.

    • zonealarm ON

What happens when you click scan or update?

      • John ON

No need to part company with ZA. Just uninstall ZA+AV and install the latest ZA firewall only product.

      • Kurt ON

When I click on scan, it acts like it’s about to scan but nothing happens. The update begins and then quits, and then I can’t cancel the update… I have to restart ZA. One update issue might be related to having dial-up internet, since I also can’t get Firefox to update anymore.

  24. Steve Thomas ON

Hi. I have been using ZoneAlarm free on XP for several years and it has been excellent but after starting the update to the new Free Antivirus + Firewall it got as far as the reboot and then part way through the startup it rebooted again and again in a continual loop. From Safe mode I managed to remove it and after several attempts have resigned to installing the version without Antivirus as this works OK. Will this issue be fixed so that I can install the Antivirus + Firewall version?

    • zonealarm ON

It is likely that when you uninstalled a previous antivirus software that fragments were left behind. Please determine what antivirus you had before and contact the company for a clean uninstall file.

  25. elge ON

Please tell me how to close or hide the ZA “”post it” like picture at the bottom of my screen. It interferes with many of my toolbars

    • zonealarm ON

Are you talking about the ZA icon located in your systems tray? If so, that needs to be there, otherwise that means your ZoneAlarm is not running.

  26. I No Longer Like ZA ON

Accidentally allowed ZA to upgrade the system and it has installed the AV side of things along with the toolbar. This has completely messed up the system and I am unable to remove anything. Will have to resort to a restore or even complete re-install as the system is now corrupt. Not happy may have to revert back to Outpost FW. System is fully patched XP.

    • zonealarm ON

We give users the option to upgrade to our ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. It is up to the user to read everything before clicking next. If you are running another antivirus product, then that is what is conflicting with the ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall’s antivirus engine. Please either uninstall the third party antivirus if you choose to keep ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall, or uninstall ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall if you want to keep the third party antivirus.

I upgraded to the latest zonealarm+virus prog on my dell laptop running win7…….what a DISASTER, win7 refused to shutdown and jammed on the shutdown screen. Double checked that all remains of previous AVG where uninstalled and no other programs where on drive, made sure win7 OEM programs where disabled, still no good, did a update on zonealarm, still no good !!!
In the end I have removed zonealarm and running win7 OEM defender with AVG…. no problems
On my desk top I refuse the upgrade message for zonealarm on it as obviously it will do the same thing

    • zonealarm ON

Often when this happens it is because fragments of the previous security software (in your case AVG) gets left behind in your system. Try running AVG’s clean uninstall here: http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities

      • brian ON

Yep I did the clean uninstall before installing the ZA because I already know of these problems. Still no joy
If I disable AVG before shut down it still freezes
If I disable ZA before shutdown it shuts down correctly

Hello I installed ZoneAlarm Free AV + FW, I test it and like it a lot, but I saw that when I downloaded compressed file zip ZoneAlarm does not scan for viruses. Once I open it again no reaction from ZoneAlarm. File contains a dangerous virus which Kaspersky Anti-Virus detects it, which means that ZoneAlarm to detect it. How should I configure ZoneAlarm to make scanning of compressed files.

ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall does not scan compressed file. Rather it scans the zip file upon extraction.

    Hi,
I am using Zone Alarm Free for years. It is really good. I want to pay it but I cannot. Here is why.

Until Norton 360, I used its paid version. When they came up with 360 and somehow forced me to install. Everything went bad. It was disaster. I decided to uninstall but I could not. Some parts of it was never removed. When I look for alternative, one of my friend advised ZoneAlarm as Firewall and AVG Free for Antivirus. These two saved my life. For about 7 years, I use them happily.

A couple of years ago, I tried to use paid versions of these two. But, paid versions come with lots of stuffs which need extertise to use them. I had lots of problem or difficulty to use them. I had bought ZoneAlarm + AntiVirus then I needed to remove it. Then I tried AVG + Firewall, it failed as well. What I had noticed, each solution was good in their original solution. ZoneAlarm was the best Firewall and AVG was the best Antivirus software for me. Then, I quit trying paid version. Because they claim offering good stuff but they make it difficult or complicated using their solutions. One thing is very notable. Uninstall of both ZoneAlarm and AVG were straight forward and easy. I never experienced any problem when I return from paid version to free version.

I sincerely want to pay them because they are doing their job great. But, I don’t want to have trouble when I pay it. That’s why I cannot buy them. Or maybe I can purchase and go on using the free versions.

Thanks ZoneAlarm for such a great product.

    http://www.av-test.org/en/tests/home-user/mayjun-2012

OUTSTANDING test results from AV-Test’s Home User (PC) for May/June 2012. ZoneAlarm Free AV + FW 10.2 got:
    * a 5.5 out of 6 in Protection
    * a 5.5 out of 6 in Repair
    * a 5.0 out of 6 in Usability

Not only did ZoneAlarm Free AV + FW score better than some other notable free programs (Avast, AVG Free, Microsoft, Panda Free), but ZA surprisingly got better scores than several well-known PAID security suite products (AVG, Avira, ESET, G-Data, GFI/Vipre, McAfee, Norman, Panda, PC Tools, Norton – a REAL shocker, Trend Micro).

To you guys at Checkpoint and ZoneAlarm: Congratulations!

In my opinion, the only major thing keeping ZA Free AV + FW from being rated top-notch is the resource-heavy”vsmon” process. If you folks could find some way to lower “vsmon’s” CPU and Memory usage, the program would rate #1. I’ve seen several web site posts (at the ZoneAlarm Forum, and also WildersSecurity.com) from PC users having this issue. And I did download and install ZA Free AV + FW in my own PC, and similarly, if it wasn’t for the heaviness of “vsmon,” I would still be using your program today.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING to improve “vsmon.”

It’s worth your best effort — ZoneAlarm’s firewall is second to none. And ZA’s antivirus, with the Kaspersky engine, is a high-quality component companion to the firewall. I mean, ZoneAlarm scoring BETTER in Protection and Repair than Norton Internet Security 2012??? Are you kidding me?

Look at the AV-Test results for yourself. Then, make sure everybody in your company sees it.

(And, if you want another great suggestion for ZA Free AV + FW, please INCREASE the number of automatic updates per day — just one in 24 hours is not enough for such a great security product.)

  32. adam ON

thank you zone alarm for providing a great free firewall. only thing i would like help with is… recently downloaded free version beta. works great! only problem it scans like every 2 mins. slows down computer! cant seem to find setting to change this. any help would be welcoming thank you!

  33. David ON

I’ve used ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall for several years. It was a great product. A recent update pushed the AntiVirus component to me. I already use another AntiVirus product. I do NOT like having one product for ALL my security.

I used the chat option and asked how to get rid of the AntiVirus component. Was told to uninstall ZA Pro, remove all checkpoint folders, and re-install ZA Pro using a download that ended with 073_000.exe

I did that, and re-installed ZA Pro, but it still included the AntiVirus component. If there is no way to have ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall WITHOUT the AntiVirus component, I’ll have to find a different Firewall.

    • zonealarm ON

First, it sounds like you’re running our ZoneAlarm Free Firewall (free version) and NOT ZoneAlarm Pro Firewall (Paid version). If you just want to run the standalone Free Firewall, please do the following:
      1) Uninstall whichever ZoneAlarm you currently have installed and reboot your PC
      2) Install ZoneAlarm Free Firewall here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm

      • David ON

It is the Pro version. This is a new PC that it is on. Last week, I re-download my original purchase from my purchase history to install it on my new PC (Old PC went ka-put). The ZA Pro was renewed 2 months shy of 2 years ago. A few days after installing (from my on-line purchase history) it said there was an update. That update included the AntiVirus component.

I have now un-installed it for the third (or fourth) time on my new PC. Instead of chatting with tech and getting another “bad” download, I revisited my purchase history and downloaded it again on my new PC. When I open ZA to the Product Info tab it says:

        ZoneAlarm Pro version 9.3.037.000
        TrueVector security engine version 9.3.037.000
        Driver version 9.1.522.000

The “Check for Updates” says there is a new version/update available, but I’m afraid if I accept the update, the AntiVirus component will be installed.

        • David ON

I had also posted my question in the Zone Alarm community. One person replied and said the Welcome Screen for the ZA Pro update (without antivirus) says “Thank you for installing ZA Free Antivirus + Firewall”. (Yes it does).

That person also uses the Pro version and had the same thing happen to him when he downloaded the update. He suggested disregarding what the Welcome screen said. If that Welcome screen does not apply, ZoneAlarm should display a correct “Welcome screen” for which ever product is downloaded or updated.

          • zonealarm ON

            David,

Any screen shots of you what you are seeing would be beneficial for us to resolving the issue. You can use tinypic.com to share what you are seeing with us.

      • You have mentioned that the link downloads firewall WITHOUT antivirus, however I’ve got it “with” (and I do not need it!). Where can I get full install (not a web install) without antivirus? Please, advise.

  34. everything in zonealarm antivirus +firewall is verygood but if update time will be 3days it would be much better,it has detected 12 viruses and sucessfully cleaned it thanks zonealarm

    • zonealarm ON

Viruses and other malware emerge onto the Web on a constant basis. Having our antivirus update every 3 days would leave your PC unprotected from the latest online threats. It’s important to make sure your antivirus and firewall are always up-to-date and running.

  35. thanks ZoneAlarm for this marvallous free protection. I have been tired of searching and using every antivirus in the world but finally I found ZoneAlarm tow weeks ago and now I am very happy and satisfied with it and feel secured.

  36. gabriel arthur petrie ON

I had to uninstall Threatfire in order for Zonealarm’s automated upgrade to go through correctly, but even after rebooting it would hang at 20%. I simply uninstalled all Zonealarm and did a clean install to the new version, instead. I was happy to see that Antivirus is integrated with Zonealarm, now, so I don’t feel like re-installing Threatfire. The only complaint I have left is that the download that started when I selected to install the anti-virus component is looking like it’s going to take a full hour, just to download what it reports as “44mb”. This isn’t that slow of a connection — are your servers under that heavy of a load? When I update signatures every day, how long is that going to take? I’m used to clapping my laptop shut and taking off at a moment’s notice, and anything that will glue me to my seat is a Bad Thing.

    • zonealarm ON

      Hi,

We’re not sure what Threatfire you previously had on your computer, but the rule of thumb is to only run one antivirus and one firewall. Running multiples could cause hang ups, crashes, or undesired performance. You may want to try to find a clean uninstall program from Threatfire, run that program, and reboot your computer.

I take it the free version is “ZoneAlarm Security Suite” plus a specific licence key for the free version & if that is the case where can I obtain a licence key for the free version?

    • zonealarm ON

We’re not understanding your question. ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite is not our free version of ZoneAlarm. We have two free products: ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. You do not need a license key for these two free products.

Ive been using ZA Free + Firewall for the last 3 days. I’m really impressed. For the first day the system seemed slightly slower, but now things are zipping along just fine. I did remove the browser plug ins and just rely on Trusteer Rapport and now web browsing seems quicker too. My only question is whether it’s possible to stop the adverts at boot up. Ive had a different advert each day now, is this something that will continue on a daily basis like with Avira ( which I uninstalled in favour of ZA)?

    • zonealarm ON

We push out offers to our users who use our ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. Customers who have our paid products do not get these offers pushed out to them.

      1. We have two free ZoneAlarm products: ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. Please make sure you only run ONE firewall and one antivirus on your machine. Running multiples may very likely cause crashes, hang ups, and undesired performance. If you have just downloaded ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall, do not run it with Avast, Norton, or any other security products.

      2. Browser providers, such as Firefox, have a tendency to release version at a extremely fast pace. We are constantly working to ensure that our products are compatible.

      3. Yes, you can have Malwarebyte’s Antimalware on your computer. We’re unsure of SpyShelter. If you are running our ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall, we advise against running another Security suite alongside. We’re curious to know why you want to run ZoneAlarm with Malwarebytes and SpyShelter.

      4. In terms of resellers in India, we are currently working on that.

  40. In previous messages several people have asked to get stand alone install files (NOT WEB INSTALL) for the free firewall. And all the links in the replies lead to web install.

So here im asking it again: How i get the _NON-WEB_ install files?
Im not going to plug in the web cable before i have the firewall completely installed so web install files are useless for me.

    Thank you <3

    • zonealarm ON

You can always run your PC in ‘Safe mode with Internet’ to download and install the web installer version of ZoneAlarm. Our web installer of ZoneAlarm Free Firewall and ZoneAlarm Free Firewall are both 2.1MB, which is quite small.

Just curious, since you say you don’t want to plug your cable before having a firewall installed. But what firewall are you running right now as you’re connected to the web to gives us this response?

      • Im using my up to date computer to surf internet at the moment. My other computer needs the firewall to be installed.

Anyway, thanks for telling that i can safely connct the computer to internet in safe mode. Never knew about that.

      • Tried to install the web setup in “safe mode with networking” but no luck. I gust get a popup telling me it cannot be installed in safe mode.

Why must this be so hard? Back in the days you offered stand alone install files. Simple and easy. What is the meaning of web install anyway?

These are URL for offline installers:

          1. Firewall Free: download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/zaSetup_110_000_054.exe

          2. Firewall+AV: download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/zaAvSetup_110_000_054.exe

          • zonealarm ON

            Correction:

            1) Offline ZoneAlarm Free Firewall:
            download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/zafwSetup_110_000_054.exe

            2) Offline ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall:
            download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/zaSetup_110_000_054.exe

Note: download.zonealarm.com/bin/free/support/download/zaAvSetup_110_000_054.exe is actually for our ZoneAlarm PRO Antivirus + Firewall.

  41. My installation of ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall has the antivirus component set to update daily at 10:00 am. However, I noticed that when my laptop is turned off at that time and misses the schedule, it does not update at all for that day and next update is rescheduled at 10:00 am the following day. My antivirus has not been updated for 5 straight days because I don’t normally use my laptop at 10:00 am and I don’t like manual updates at all.

    • zonealarm ON

When you turn your computer on and ZoneAlarm launches, you should see in your Systems Tray the ZA icon. When it is updating, an upwards arrow will appear over the ZA logo; when it is scanning, a magnifying glass will appear over the ZA logo. Your ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall should be updating at least once a day.

  42. please tell me that zonealarm uses which version of kaspersky engine.in future can it have usb scanner, and automatic threat disinfection without asking the user in realtime, and please reduce its update size, please improve its realtime protection so that it monitors all.

  43. I use Office XP and ZoneAlarm FREE Antivirus + Firewall, version 10.2.078.000. How do I uninstall the antivirus portion?

    • zonealarm ON

Hi Karen. What is the reason why you need to uninstall the antivirus portion? At minimal, every PC should have a two-way firewall and an antivirus. If you already have another antivirus on your PC, you can install our standalone ZoneAlarm Free Firewall here: http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/zonealarm-pc-security-free-firewall.htm

      • ilpedrino ON

I tried this and it is the same installer as the ZAA+F — no difference. This version of ZA does not like my Avira AV either — and no I did not select the AV portion of ZA.

Have used ZA for a very long time on all my computers and those that I worked on for others. This new version has me rethinking things though. After installing my boot time has exponentially increased and the system hangs every time. Uninstalled ZA and it went back to normal, reinstalled and huge delay and hang again. The previous version did not do this. Very disappointed in the new ZAA+F — wish I could get a real install file for Firewall only.

  44. We have a restaurant with the computer in the office, and with 4 order screens and card swipes up front. Is Zone Alarm Anti Virus and Firewall 2013 as depicted on this page suitable for us? Also, I am frightened that a firewall might interfere with our credit card processing. Can we circumvent this potential problem at the onset?

    • zonealarm ON

We haven’t tested ZoneAlarm with POS systems. We recommend to contact the manufacturer of the POS system you are using to determine if they say it’s okay or not for you to use ZoneAlarm with their software and hardware.

  50. Hello there,

I have recently installed ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall & so far I’m quite happy with the product. However I like to test various software packages on my PC & prior to any installation I set a Windows “System restore point”.

The main issue I have is this, on attempting to use system restore once the re-start has been completed an error message tells me the restore has failed & I can assure you this problem has never occurred prior to ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall install.

Is this a common problem & do you have any advice on how I can overcome this problem?

  51. I was wondering why sometimes the ZA icon disappears and a 4 – 5″ long blue bar comes along the system tray instead, with the word ZONEALARM on it. I’ve always thought it meant I have malware on whatever site I have just clicked on when the bar started? It’s impossible to get rid of the bar without rebooting, and it cannot be right-clicked on. Cannot see the time and other icons that are always there.

Yes, all of our ZoneAlarm security products are Windows 8 compatible. Just be sure you’ve downloaded the latest version.

    Hi,

I recently installed Zonealarm Free antivirus on a WIN7- System.
But I have to say the On-Access-Protection doesn´t work for me properly.

At every start-up of the system it is not active.. I have to open the Settings window and manually enable “On-access”-Protection.

As long as the window is left open every thing is fine, but when I close the window and reopen it “on-access”-Protection ist deactivated again.

    Do you have any solution?

    • zonealarm ON

Do you by chance have another antivirus or PC security software installed on your PC? If so, please uninstall that and reboot before installing ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall. Rule of thumb: ONE antivirus and ONE firewall on ONE PC; otherwise running more than one firewall and antivirus software will cause hang ups and undesired performance.

  54. Ranjan ON

I am a very, very long time user of ZoneAlarm (recommended by Steve Gibson of grc.com) and was really glad when you added the anti-virus to the firewall. I was wondering when the next update (using ZoneAlarm Extreme Security version: 10.1.079.000 at the moment) to the client was going to come out and what additions it will include? My subscription runs for another 552 days.

I installed v.11.0.000.054 undex Win XP Pro (Dell Precision 390).
After that USB 2.0 started working at the speed of 1MB/sec instead of 20-30 MB/sec. This is not acceptable.

    • zonealarm ON

Please note that running PC security is not supposed to increase the speed of your computer. In most cases, it slows it down a bit due to its active scanning of your PC. You can also update to Windows 7 or 8.

  56. David ON

I downloaded the new ZA firewall 2013 (without anti-virus). zafwSetupWeb_110_000_057.exe . When I went to run it, it says “Your current version of ZoneAlarm needs to be uninstalled first… Click Yes to uninstall and No to exit”. I clicked on “Yes”.

On the uninstall screen it says “Note: To transfer your settings to a higher version of this product, do not uninstall. Install the new product over this one”. It gives me the option to click “Exit” or “Uninstall”. I _am_ going to a higher version, and since I do not want to loose my previous settings, I clicked on “Exit”, which ended installing the new 2013 version.

I just happen to have my previous exe installation file for ZA Pro (zapSetupWeb_102_057_000.exe). I tried to run that and I get the message, “A previous version of ZA Pro is detected. You can upgrade the current version to the new version”. It also gives me two buttons, “Quick Install with default settings”, and “Custom Install”. If I want to keep my PREVIOUS settings, can I/should I install ZA Pro 2013 this way (and which button – Quick install or Custom Install). OR – should I use the new exe and HOPE my previous settings are not lost? I know once before I had problems with several programs including Thunderbird e-mail. I had to tweak several ZA Pro settings.
