1. Why is ZoneAlarm discontinuing its ZoneAlarm® Wireless Security product?

As of October 19, 2005, ZoneAlarm is including all functionality from your wireless security product into a new product, ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware.  With this new product, you'll be able to do everything you did before.  But you'll now have the industry's most advanced spyware prevention system, along with spyware removal capability, to protect your computer from spyware.

ZoneAlarm continually evaluates product offerings to ensure the features and services address current and future customer needs. Due to the increase and severity of spyware outbreaks and threats, we have decided to include the wireless security feature in a product that encompasses spyware prevention and removal.

2. What do I need to do?

As a ZoneAlarm Wireless Security customer, you have the following two options:

    1. Take a FREE upgrade to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware (free for users with a valid subscription to ZoneAlarm Wireless Security)
    2. Remain with your current version of ZoneAlarm Wireless Security through the duration of your subscription

Option A – Take a free upgrade to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware
This product includes all functionality that's in your current wireless security product, and adds an advanced spyware prevention and removal system with the following features.

  • Spyware Prevention that leverages our proven firewall to monitor program installation, registry changes and file access.
  • A Triple Defense Firewall™ that fuses our traditional network firewall with two new host-based layers to prevent spyware from attacking other programs or the operating system.
  • Kernel-level threat prevention that monitors at the lowest level of the operating system to prevent installation of the most dangerous and hard-to-detect threats, such as rootkits.
  • Spyware scanning and removal system to rid your computer of spyware
  • Automatic spyware treatment that removes the most dangerous and useless spyware automatically.

Option B – Remain with ZoneAlarm Wireless Security
You may choose to remain using your current version of ZoneAlarm Wireless Security. Nothing will change if you choose this option. ZoneAlarm will not be updating this product in the future, but we will continue to provide Instant Support for current subscribers, which includes Web form support, and Web site FAQs for all users.

Once your subscription has expired, you may purchase one of our other products, or continue using ZoneAlarm Wireless Security (please note that ZoneAlarm will not be updating ZoneAlarm Wireless Security as of October 19, 2005).

If you decide to keep your existing version of ZoneAlarm Wireless Security, we suggest you turn your "Check for Update" to manual mode so that you will not be prompted to download ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware.

To do this, open the ZoneAlarm Wireless Security user interface > go to the Overview section (left column) > then click on the Preferences tab (within the Overview panel). Under the sub-head "Check for Updates", click button next to "Manually", then click "OK" in the pop-up window and close the ZoneAlarm Wireless Security user interface.

3. How do I get a license key for the free upgrade?

If you choose the free upgrade to ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware, you will not need a new license key. However, you must wait to receive the ZoneAlarm "Check for Update" notice, which will be activated in mid-October. Only users with valid subscriptions will be able to install ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware for free.

When you receive the "Check for Update" notice, which looks like the screen below, make sure the Update Now radio button is highlighted, then click OK.

You will be taken to a landing page that will provide you with the link to install ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware.

4. What happens if I bought ZoneAlarm Wireless Security within the past month?

If you purchased ZoneAlarm Wireless Security in the past month, you are eligible to upgrade to ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware for free. If you do not wish to upgrade to ZoneAlarm® Anti-Spyware, you may continue to use ZoneAlarm Wireless Security for the duration of your subscription. Technical support is available to you while your subscription is still valid. Web site FAQs are available once your subscription has expired.

5. Will I still be able to get help if I need it?

As long as your subscription is valid, you will be able to obtain assistance by using our free Instant Support (Web-based Technical Support Agent) that includes Web form support, or our premium phone support ($2.95/minute fee). Once your subscription is no longer valid, your help resources will include: ZoneAlarm Online Self-help support, online community forum, and premium phone support.

6. What are my options for customer support?

You have several options for customer support depending on whether your ZoneAlarm Wireless Security subscription is valid.

If you have a valid subscription, you may choose between ZoneAlarm's Instant Support, a free Web-based Technical Support agent that includes Web form support, or ZoneAlarm's premium phone support ($2.95/minute). The Instant Support agent is very knowledgeable and can provide you with expert information without you having to wait for an email response to your request. Instant Support can assist you with questions in these areas:

  • System Issues.
  • Product Features
  • Connectivity (Internet or network access with ZoneAlarm running).
  • Installation and License Keys (new installs, updates, and upgrades).
  • Internet and third-party application issues.

And when the Instant Support agent is not able to answer your question(s), you will be given the opportunity to contact customer care via a Web form.

Premium phone support is also available for $2.95 per minute (no charge until you begin speaking with a technician).

7. Will there be updates to the product?

ZoneAlarm will not be updating ZoneAlarm Wireless Security as of October 19, 2005.

Users with valid subscriptions are also encouraged to upgrade to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware for free.

8. What happens if I encounter a bug?

ZoneAlarm will not be issuing bug fixes to ZoneAlarm Wireless Security unless the bug is known to cause holes or vulnerabilities for all users of ZoneAlarm Wireless Security. Reported bugs will be looked into, but only items that would compromise a computer's protection will be investigated. We encourage users to upgrade to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware.

9. What other products are available to me from ZoneAlarm?

ZoneAlarm offers a wide variety of security products. Following is a brief description of each. For more information on a specific product, please click the product name.

ZoneAlarm Security Suite – All-in-one PC Security. Includes our advanced firewall, antivirus, anti-spyware, instant messaging security, Web site monitoring, privacy protection, ad blocking, cache cleaner, and more.

ZoneAlarm Pro – Advanced Firewall and Privacy Protection. Includes firewall with Hacker ID feature, and privacy protection with ID Lock which guards your personal information from being sent from your PC without your permission.

Zonealarm PRO Antivirus + Firewall – Protection for You and Your PC. Includes firewall and antivirus protection.

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall – Firewall Protection for Your PC. Includes our award-winning firewall to keep hackers out of your computer.

10. Will there be any changes to the product?

ZoneAlarm will not be making any changes to ZoneAlarm Wireless Security. The last release of the product is version 5.5.094.000.

11. What happens if my subscription recently expired or will expire soon?

If your subscription has recently expired (past 30 days), or will be expiring soon (within the next 30 days), you may purchase one of our other products including ZoneAlarm® Internet Security Suite, ZoneAlarm® Pro, or ZoneAlarm® Antivirus, or ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware*. Please click the "Renew" button (Overview panel | "Product Info") within your product for information on our other products and special pricing for continuing as a ZoneAlarm customer.

*You may upgrade to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware for free for the duration of your subscription. However, once your subscription expires, you will not be eligible for the free ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware upgrade.

12. What happens if I purchased the Extended Download, Back-up Disk, or one of the other partner products that ZoneAlarm sells?

If you included the Extended Download or Back-up Disk from ZoneAlarm with your ZoneAlarm Wireless Security purchase, you may continue to use these products and either upgrade for free to ZoneAlarm Anti-Spyware (no Extended Download or Back-up Disk will be provided for the free upgrade), or continue using ZoneAlarm Wireless Security.
