BSOD STOP ERROR when starting Windows XP Pro after installing ZoneAlarm FREE
This is actually a two-fold post. The most prominent problem is the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) that occasionally occurs when booting into my system (WinXP Pro SP2 with AVS at startup as well). The BSOD states that the offending file during startup is SRESCAN.SYS located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\.
This problem has only surfaced on a few occasions, and after a complete uninstall in safe mode (with an ensuing manual registry and drive cleaning by me...) and subsequent reinstall, the BSOD problem seems to have gone away. However, internet connectivity is now, at best, spotty and uneven. The only way I can seem to access the internet with a "normal" amount of response time (I have DSL - 256 up/768 down, running Firefox 2.0) is to completely shut down ZoneAlarm. With ZoneAlarm up, I can "mostly" access websites that visit on a very regular basis, but some of the page content refuses to populate (and page load times are painfully slow). And then, for no apparent reason (and with no warning), all access to the internet ceases and I can't get anything to respond.
I have left ZoneAlarm running on the system while I'm off doing something else in the house (leaving the system idle) for an hour or so on occasion. When I return to the system, the Internet Lock is engaged and won't shut off. Even after shutting down ZoneAlarm and restarting it, I still have no connectivity.
I have used ZoneAlarm in the past for many years. I've been unemployed for the better part of the last four years and haven't had internet or monetary funds available to purchase ZoneAlarm Pro. Now, once again in a place of my own with a high-speed internet connection, I've got my favorite firewall back on my system. But now I'm beginning to have serious doubts as to purchasing the full version of the software as even the basic version of the program is giving me grief.
Any help or response at all from other users or ZoneAlarm staffers would be greatly appreciated.

Re: BSOD STOP ERROR when starting Windows XP Pro after installing ZoneAlarm FREE
Delete the srescan. It is not needed for the ZAFree versions. It is a component of the ZA spy-scanner.
Have you tried this to fix the internet issues?...
1. Go to Run type in command, hit OK, and type ipconfig /all then press enter. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side
2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall>Zones tab click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted
3. Click OK and then Apply for each one.
4. The localhost or loopback must be listed as Trusted. It has the address of 127.0.0.1
5 The Generic Host Process or the svchost.exe listed in the Program list must have both Trusted and Internet access and it must have server rights for the Trusted Zone, but not the Internet Zone.
This may work, unless there is something else that is causing the problem.
