Help! ZA Free keeps changing my registry keys!
I recently installed the free Zone Alarm firewall on my PC. I have been happy with its performance, except for one thing I do not understand. It is constantly making changes to my registry keys. All of the changes are to the HK - Local Machine and apparently involve the e-mail protection feature.
I have done a clean removal and re-install and have disabled the e-mail feature.
The problem remains.
Every time I start-up, anywhere from 10 to 20 changes are noted.
They continue while my PC is running.
For example, each change involves the root mentioned above, the key is Software\Classes\exe and the value is ZAMailSafeExt. Each change will show new data zl3, or zlp or zl9.
Are my settings correct? Is anyone else seen this program do this before?
I have a recent HJT log I can post if needed.
I am running XP MCE SP2. If additional info is needed, please let me know.
Operating System:Windows XP Pro
Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)
Re: Help! ZA keeps changing my registry keys!
Hi With the email feature in the ZA disabled, there will be the Mailsafe feature installed and ready to be used, regardlessly. The installation of the ZA can not be customized. The custom install would involve altering the installer completely. The return of the keys and the email file (C:\Programs\Zone Labs) is very natural. The ZA is designed to protect itself from any harm induced by virus/malware. The self repair is one it's security features. If you do not want the Mailsafe feature just turn off the Email feature and leave it alone. HJT is only telling you that the security application you installed is a threat? Why? Just enjoy the free ZA and relax! Take care and have some fun! Oldsod
