Default Internet Zone Security 'High' vs Program expert rules

    Hi,

Just looking for some information/help. I am trying to configure Shareaza to work with ZAP and have encountered some problems.

Shareaza is a p2p application that listens on only one, user configurable, port. As such I have set up the following program expert rules for it:

    Out
    Rank: 1
    Action: Allow
    Source: My Computer
    Destination: Internet Zone
Protocol: TCP & UDP, Destination Port - Any, Source Port - Any
    Time: Any

    In
    Rank: 2
    Action: Allow
    Source: Internet Zone
    Destination: My Computer
Protocol: TCP & UDP, Destination Port - [Specified Port], Source Port - Any
    Time: Any

    Block
    Rank: 3
    Action: Block
    Source: Any
    Destination: Any
    Protocol: Any
    Time: Any

Furthermore I have allowed Access to the Internet and Trusted Zones as well as allowing it to act as a Server on the Internet and Trusted Zones.

However when I set the internet zone security to high I find that incoming UDP connections to [Specified Port] are being blocked. When I check the log, I see that these connections are being blocked at the firewall level as opposed to the program control level.

When I adjust the high internet zone security settings to Allow Incoming UDP ports on the [Specified Port] I find that incoming UDP connections are now allowed. I do not have to do this for Allow Outgoing UDP ports, Allow Incoming TCP ports, or Allow Outgoing TCP ports, the program expert rules seem to do the job here.

So basically I am wondering if this is a bug in ZAP, currently using ZAP 6, or whether there is something I dont understand about how Firewall security zones interact with the program control settings.

Thanks for any help that anyone can offer me.

    Operating System:
    Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:
    ZoneAlarm Pro
    Software Version:
    6.0

    Edit:
Is it normal for me to be able to make this post a sticky?
