"Alt+F4 should close the button and keep the ZA still active on the PC.

Check the msconfig for more than one zlclient listing. If there are two, then one is the imposter.

    No go.
I feel so stupid hijacking this thread. Could it be unhijacked? The thread subject is the icon in the Notification area

Just one ZA client in msconfig. Just one vsmon (TrueVector service).
Alt-F4 says "Send to tray" but a picture comes up which I take for a shutdown request.
    Do it?

Ok, I did it. Alt-F4. In spite of the dire warning, it did not shut down ZA, so that's good news. Actually very good.
Now from the Z icon in the Notification area I clicked Restore...
The client opened. The big thing came back into the main area in the middle, I had to do the send to tray and click OK again. Sure is a lot of work on this silly thing, isn't it?

Fax and Oldsod, do you do the send to tray all the time then?
I'm just trying to go at an easy way and comparing notes has been interesting.

In the ZoneAlarm ... tips window, check the box and OK.
That is what I do the very first time and never see it or this problem again.

Whenever the ZA is opened, it leaves a ZA button in the taskbar. Closing the ZA window on the desktop (either the red Z in the upper right or with Alt+F4 -send to tray) should remove the ZA button from the taskbar.

I usually have it in the icon tray and just open up the ZA when needed.
But sometime when at the forum, I need the ZA opened to get info for replies, so I leave it in the taskbar. Plus the windows sub directories and a few other places.

    Whoa!!
Oldsod, if there ever was a message to misinterpret, that was it. And I did just that. For years. I didn't dare use the X in the upper corner because that thingie about shutdown was threatning me. But I just clicked that plain old X. The client closed, ZA is running just fine.

What would we all do if ZA/Checkpoint didn't provide this forum for us

Actually it was baffling for me when I first used the ZA. It took a few weeks before I got brave and closed it with the red X. What has surprised me was the left upper corner of the ZA gui has no options window. Kind of always missed that usual feature.
Glad to hear you have got the button out of the taskbar.
    Best regards.
