Default I am Confused about which options are used by which anti-virus scan methods

    Hi

I am Confused about which options ("Scan Targets" and "Exceptions" ) are used by which anti-virus scan methods (doing a "normal" scan of files, and On-Access Scanning.)

In Anti-Virus/spyware --> Main --> Advanced Options --> Virus Management
you can set Scan Targets and Exceptions

There are 2 different ways of checking for viruses:
    (a) doing a "normal" scan of files, and (b) On-Access Scanning.

Can someone please explain which of the 2 settings (Scan Targets and Exceptions) are used when

    (a) doing a "normal" scan of files, and which are used when

    (b) On-Access Scanning

    ?

    Thanks!

Hi!Scan targets is to exclude files/folders from the 'on demand' scanningExceptions is to exclude files/folders from the 'on access' scanning.'On demand' scan = A scan been demanded by you or been scheduled.'On access' = An active scan whenever you access to a file/folder (open/save/close) --> The real AV protection.Better?Cheers,Fax

    Thanks for that !
That's a bit of an odd setup.
Most of the time you'd want to exclude the same things from both
    'on demand' and
    'on access' scans wouldn't you?

Hi!may be, but most of the antivirus software differenciate between the two.For example, you may want to exclude a specific folder from the on demand scanning (large harmless Zip files) but you do not want to exclude the folder from the on access scanner to avoid malware uses this folder to hide specific activecontent during use. If you have both excluded you will only discover the infection when you schedule your on demand scan (if the antivirus is still functional).Cheers,Fax
