Same problem here but with Windows XP and ZoneAlarm Security Suite v8.0.298.035. This was a known problem with 8.0.020 but I thought they would have fixed this by now.

Does update five or six times per day and when this happens everything stops. More generally applications very slow to load but once loaded are OK until the next antivirus update.

In 2006 I ditched Norton Internet Protection because it was bloatware and took over my PC completely. ZoneAlarm was a great improvement then but I fear it is going down the same road as Norton. It is getting so bad that I am looking for an alternative product.

Hi!please contact ZA technical support directly, slow down can happen due to huge number of different factors. For example, runnning ZAondated machine with low memory or old CPU. Tipically also other tools or left overs can create problems to ZA, malware infection can also impact on speed, finally corruption or bad settings can slow down the overall operation of ZA and updates. If you are running with less than 1GIGA of RAM then please update your RAM. It will help to speed up your system. Also try to defrag your HD and keep your OS updated to the latest patch (SP3 + all patches)Please note that the latest version of ZA is 8.400.020. You find the download link at: www.zonealarm.com/zasuitedownload/It is not offered by automatic update. If all of the above does not apply to you then try to boot your system only with ZA and standard services.1.) Click Start -> Run
2.) Type MSConfig in the run box and click OK
3.) Once in MSConfig, click the Startup Tab
4.) Remove the checks from everything except ZLClient
    5.) Click the Services Tab
6.) Place a check in "Hide All Microsoft Services"
7.) Now remove checks from everything other than TrueVector Internet
    Monitor, and click OK.
8.) Restart your computerHow does it work?
NOTE: You can place your computer back into a normal startup process by
going back into msconfig and choosing the Normal Startup option on the
General tab. Finally you can proceed to remove ZA, check for malware, defrag your HD, remove conflicting applications and reinstalling ZA as detailed below:First remove ZASS with the ZA removal tool (download on desktop and run as administrator):http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeDouble check that all ZA related files/folders are gone:01.) Restart your computer
02.) When you see the screen go black and it starts booting back up keep
tapping the "F8" key (at the top of your keyboard)
03.) This should bring up a menu. Choose Safe Mode off the menu by
using the arrow keys on the keyboard to highlight Safe Mode and press
    Enter
04.) If you get a message asking to go to Safe Mode, choose Yes. If you
get a help and support window, close this.
5.) Double Click the Program Files Folder
6.) Right Click the Zone Labs Folder, click Delete, and choose Yes

NOTE: If you cannot delete the entire folder, please open the Zone Labs -

    - Type Prefetch and click OK
    - Select all of these files and delete them16.) Empty your recycle bin.
    17.) Restart the computer.
18.) ZA does not play nice with many other security tools. They may block its correct functioning including updates. For example, spyware doctor, spysweeper, trojan hunter, win patrol, PCtools Threat Fire, Mcafee, Norton, Symantec, Adaware, SpybotS&D, WinPatrol, AVG, Avas t free, NOD, Kaspersky, Comod o, Rising, PC Doctorand manyothers. If you want to troubleshoot issues with ZA please remove these tools (not enough to disable) and install back (if you really need) only after you see your ZA is working as it should.19.) Double check you have really removed all other security tools by running this utilityhttp://www.appremover.com/20.) Check the system for malware. Check with MBAM and SuperAntispyware. See links here:http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...essage.id=378721). Clean your system and registry with ccleaner.comhttp://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloadbinslim22). Re-download the ZASS installerwww.zonealarm.com/zasuitedownload 23). Install with default settings do NOT alter them. After re-boot go to ZA antivirus/antispyware and 'Update Now' and do not restore any previous ZA settings.Cheers,Fax

    Talking Re: slowing down

    Fax,
I, too, was experiencing "slowing down" issues since I renewed my subscription-drove me nuts. Browsing this thread on the ZA Forum, I saw you response. I had a free anti-malware program which scanned for malware only when I initiated the scanner. I removed the anti-malware and, so far, no slow down issues.

    Thanks, I appreciate you
