Default ZA Pro & System Mechanic 7 Package Hilarity

I'm only posting here because Iolo doesn't have a forum and Zone Labs are packaging this with ZA, and so:

I bought the double package a few days ago since it seemed lke a good solid deal.

However, this part is hilarious:

Iolo scans the system for problems regularly and it reports that these are viruses:

Wrongly Listed As ShopNav Malware:
C:\WINDOWS\iun6002.exe

Symantec say: "it is a confirmed false-positive and the iun6002.exe file is not a virus." 06-09-2003 (5 years ago).
Link:
http://www.indigorose.com/forums/sho...rid&t=4718

Wrongly Listed As TrustInBar browser helper object:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\loader.exe

Wrongly Listed As CasinoClient adware:
C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Music\cas\settings
C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Music\cas
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights\cas\casNeighborhoodPose.txt
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights\cas\casStudio.txt
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Lights\cas

Simply ridiculous. Anyone who knows Sims 2 files will laugh at this one.

Wrongly Listed As DSrch adware:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tracktion 3\VST Plugins\Mackie Plug-ins\dsr.dll

What is particularly funny is that these files are being wrongly identified as virii because of their file names and NOT their actual code.

Having an app compare a database of filenames *does not a virus scan make*.

Iolo also regualrly tells me I have no AV or Firewall installed (I do - ZA).

Now, if I chose to disnfect all of these, what would happen is that these programs would fail:

Stardock Central
Sims 2
Tracktion.

This kind of makes me think twice now before allowing this app to make repairs to my registry...

Operating System:
Windows XP Pro
Software Version:

Product Name:

Iolo is getting a bit "Overloaded/Automated with less user control".. I have beena subscriber for 5yrs now..
SM7 will pick up "false" positives,
but I think a lot of programs of this type will..I just never let SM7 "auto clean" instead I use the Ask me option.. And checkwhat ever files that it reports, remove the bad ones and "hide/ignore" the goodones.
On the Firewall/Virus reporting, yes that is an ongoing issue if you are usingany other then Iolo's own products.. But if you just click on
Activecare/ InternetSecurity button it will then
report "most" atleast I know it
reports the latest versions/releases of
ZASS and NIS..I have also "disabled" SM7's
system Analyzer from the windows control panelso that SM7 will only analyze/work when I want it too... Support tickets still openon the above issues/program mods<(more manual control) replies are slowbut they will answer...
Other than that SM7 has worked fine for me, butthis may be my last... But at the price offered I'm not sure, but there must be areason for the lowered price for me......

Not sure if your still keeping up with this thread, But there is a program updatefor SM7, And the Firewall/AV reporting seems to be repaired.. Not sure if it'sa permanent fix, as this has been an on going problem where it will report most"other" Security programs on an update, but on the next few program
updatesthe "none" Iolo Security programs may not be reported again, but the proceedureabove always will always report them...
SM7 v7.5.11

also working on the Vista Computer

Thanks for this!

One problem thouggh:

If you select each false alert and check "ignore", then exit, it will still list these 'Virii' every time you start SM7.
There is no way to stop them being identified as Virii.

Sorry about that I meant "Hide this Problem"...

Do you have SM7 Pro or SM7??
I only have SM7, which cleans and checks for spyware etc.no virus checks, So I may be off base with my reply.. Sorry about that...
