Default Microsoft VP confirms Windows 7 ship date: January 2010

Microsoft VP confirms Windows 7 ship date: January 2010<P class=first>Microsoft will ship Windows 7 sometime in or near Jan. 2010, according to a letter company senior vice president Bill Veghte sent to Microsoft customers Tuesday.

The letter, sent to enterprise and business customers, will eventually be publicly posted on Microsoft's Web site.
In the letter sent to "Windows Customers" and titled "An Update on the Windows Roadmap," Veghte said "our plan is to deliver Windows 7 approximately three years after the January 2007 general availability launch date of Windows Vista."

Veghte wrote, "You have told us you want a more regular, predictable Windows release schedule" and he said that was the impetus for setting the 2010 the ship date.

    GeorgeV,

I read the exact same thing too, and the sad thing is that Windows 7 will apparently will require the bare minimum of what Vista requires.

Recent talk has said that if you're gonna use dual-core, then a minimum of 2.0 GHz per core with 2 GB of RAM.

I miss the days of just using a single &quot;BIG MOMMA&quot; core of 3.8 GHz

Kind of like how a single big-turbo beats twin-turbo anyday on a vehicle.

Yea technology is a funny thing, my oldest computer was still &quot;newer&quot; in retrospect.

It had an intel pentium 1 chip, 100 MHz speed, and 32 bits of ram for $1800.00

I still remember the days of trying to use dial-up into AOL, and it required dialing up to 18 numbers in a given day only to not be able to connect at 56k!

    Totally awesome!

I'm sure if I tried to load windows vista ultimate on it now, it would simply melt from over heating :-(

Do you think duo-core or quad-core will ever reach the speeds of a single core?

E.g. dual-core with each core going 4.0 GHz?

Quad-Core is becoming the Standard install option usually 2.4 - 2.6 GhzBut AMD and Intelare working on an 8-Core CPU and the Japaneese are testing a new 16 Core CPU..from what I have read, the old single Core 4.0 GHz CPU suffered from High Heat generation.. and Melted the Case in some Laptops..

    Flyourway,

HOW DO YOU HAVE A BETTER INDEX SCORE THAN ME!

    You have a 4.3 and I have a 4.1 with the same specs :-(

basically the exact same duo-core processor (T7300) with 3.0 GBz of ram, and a 128MB Nvidia graphics card (boo for the 32MB integrated intel graphics)
