Default Screen/Display flickers really quick before computer turns off

    Hello all,

I know this is totally off-topic unrelated to ZA, but I am hoping to get some general ideas on this problem that has recently occured.

Whenever I used to shutdown the laptop computer, it follows this general sequence:
    1.) Windows Logging off.
    2.) Windows Shutting down.
    3.) Screen turns black
4.) Computer shuts-down completely 1-2 seconds after screen turns black (as determined by the green led lights signifying the hard-drive, etc.)

Very recently (I believe for about 2 weeks now after updating the BIOS of the laptop) it follows this sequence:
    1.) Windows Logging off.
    2.) Windows Shutting down.
    3.) Screen turns black
4.) Screen flickers/flashes grayish-white for a millisecond prior to the computer completely shutting down (as determined by the green LED lights signifying the hard-drive, etc.)

I'm assuming the BIOS update had something to do with this? Maybe the LCD screen is now failing?

Maybe someone can reassure me this isnt some sort of motherboard/BIOS bug that someone has said to load-up automatically upon boot-up and rewrite itself when shutting down? (or maybe i'm taking it out of context totally)

    LOLOLOLOL that is the problem.

well actually maybe could just be a memory issue or a driver issue for the graphics.

    RAWR!

    lol

Well I did at the same time change up my set up a lot

1.) Upgraded from 2 gb to 3 gb
2.) Performed a clean install of Vista Ultimate (no longer vista premium with oodles of bloatware)
3.) Installed all of the most current drivers, not the "old" drivers from the restore cd's

It's funny how you, george, and me like cats haha or at least think they are funny

I am sure - uninstall vista format and install XP - and the problem will go away.

What about the direct X and the shader - did the tests?
Got a real disk for the laptop with the hardware diagnostics included?
Your graphics programs comes with a diagnostics?
Check the web site for the actual graphics hardware and see if a there is newer drivers or compatible drivers and b if there are diagnostics tools.
Sometimes life is backwards - the older drivers were the best drivers and the newer drivers are the bad ones.
Update the bios only if there is an issue - sometimes the newer bbios is at fault and the older bios was the best.

Of course I like cats - a little **bleep** never hurt anyone.
