Thread: What causes some threads/topics to gain the "lock" feature?

Default What causes some threads/topics to gain the "lock" feature?

    Hello once again.

I wanted to ask what causes some threads or topics to gain the lock picture so that nothing new can be added or posted?

Is it due to a topic being resolved?

Is the topic perhaps inappropriate (if so I promise to stop posting pictures of cats)?

Or is it simply due to the sheer volume of reply's, etc.?

Have a wonderful coming weekend to all posters, contributors, and Guru's!

any one with guru status or admin status can lock a topic for any reason
normal reasons are as you say topic is resolved or is starting to get inappropriate
other reasons are cross posting (posting same exact text over more than one forum) or a topic that really has nothing to do with the forums or a topic that leads to a bad site (trojan, spyware, porn, and etc.) also a topic and user can be locked from posting if the user is causing more problems than they are helping (flamers)
hope this clears some confusion up
    thanks robdog

I am confused as to why sometimes threads have the "lock" and other times the lock is removed?

For example, many of my old posts have the lock, yet just now they're mostly all open for replies.

Cheers and have a great weekend all!

could not tell you but today i have seen some of the topics you have started relocked
but only the admin and gurus can lock topics so i cant tell you why they locked your posts

"(if so I promise to stop posting pictures of cats)"

Do you happen to own a copy of ZA-Forcefield? What is your personal review of it?

I have it on my home computers because that is where most surfing is done.

Do you recommend spending the money on putting it on a work computer?

Or to just practice safe surfing and keep my ZA-ISS up-to date?

i would recommend trying it or you can help improve the software by using the beta (it's a little buggy right now) but if you want to buy it go ahead
benefits are that in case you accidentally stumble upon a site that is malicious you can restore your regular internet browser with the push of a button (clear virtualization) and go back to what you were doing
the only downfall i have seen is that to install plugins/activex you know are safe or to download videos with a plugin/activex (ie. real player download plugin) you have to open a unprotected browser since all files are encoded differently inside the virtual environment than within a regular internet browser (so they cant spread)
but i believe the benefits out way the downfalls in the long run since even safe browsing can cause problems without warning

Ah.. what I personally think of the ZAFF is not important.
I have used sandboxing software years ago. so my experience is not limited to these type of applications.
But to be honest I have yet to trial the ZAFF.
It really is what do you think about it that is important?

Putting this on a work computer?
Questions.....What kind of enterprise is this - what type of networking security is now arranged, what is used now for security, do workers have full admin access to their computers, are employeees allowed to make changes to company property with/without the employers/admins consent, what is being used now for security, do you use limited user accounts, is there a software firewall now in place, conflicts with other security applications, what about shared access to this computer- would the other users get stuck with a confusing software other than what is normally run, etc.

    Best regards.

never hurts to ask your it guy
depending on what type of business you work at you may be able to install the software
but if you work for a corporation you will be most unlikely be able to install the software because of there restrictions to users computers and the corporate firewall
