Default ForceField locks up IE7 upon exit and causes shut down problems

When I try to quit IE7 with ForceField installed IE7 hangs and will not quit. I also am having problems when trying to restart or shut down my computer with a ForceField component (iswmgr.exe) not exiting and I have to force quit it to allow the system to restart or shut down. When I remove ForceField IE7 works fine and shutdown and restart work without a hitch .

Does anyone have any ideas about what to do?

Operating System:Windows XP Pro
Product Name:Other ZoneAlarm Product

Could have looked into the post two down from yours.
1- Open ForceField menu > click 'Settings' > Advanced > Clear virtual data.
2 - When your ready to close down for the night you may "shut down" FF, by right clicking FF tray icon > 'Exist.' If you have the default settings, it will auto start-up the next time you start. Then do a normal shut-down.

SO I have tried your suggestions and am still having the same problems. When I try to quit ForceField one of two things happens. First if I have not laynched IE7
FF will quit when asked to do so, however if IE has been launched then a window comes up saying that it will now quit any open browser and IE7 goes away but FF seems to hang up and will not completly exit. The icon remains visable and when the cursor is placed over the icon the message displaed is that ForceField is shutting down. Force Field never completes the shutdown and the machine still hangs on attempting to shutdown or reboot with IWSMGR.exe not shutting down till a force quit is issued. Sometimes a hardware shutdown is required to exit the system.

Question - are using another web browser? firefox? or other? besides IE7. This is important question.
Question - using a ZA firewall product? which verision? if different - specify.
1 - Clear out virtual data using the last open FF page > use the FF toolbar menu instead of the FF tray
icon
- 'Settings' > 'Advanced' > 'Virtualization' > 'Clear virtual data' - after each session.
2A - You can 'Exit ForceField' before shutdown > ( right click FF tray icon> see "Exit" ; if you have it on default - it will auto-start the next time you start up) = this takes care of slow shutdowns due to ForceField.
2B - You can 'Un-check "Startup" of ForceField > ( Settings > General > uncheck box for 'Startup' ) Then you will have to manually start-up FF at your convenience after your normal pc start-up, easy to do. { I created a desktop icon for my ForceField or you can go to 'All Programs to start it up }
3 - In ZA Program Control - ForceField - it will usually ask for "Server - 'trust and internet" = with both
green checks; I have mine with 'trust = green check' // 'internet = ' ? ' which works for me. ( this is for the Server only - the Access has both green checks)
> for all 6 files - Three green
bars in 'trust level'>

Access = two green checks
> Server = trust - green check,// internet - '
? '

< change to this; your FF will still work.> Mail column...as follows...1- ZAFFDiag.exe
> ?2- ISWSVC.exe

> green check3- ForceField.exe > ?4- ISWMGR.exe

> ?5- ISWLDR.dat

> red X6- Plugins\ISWUPDE.exe > ?

4 - You can try a resetting of ZA database 'if' you have a ZA firewall product (not ForceField, thou) ...
1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

IE7 is the only web browser on the system, Using ZA Security Suite Version 8

I tried your suggestions 1-4, IE7 still hangs when I try to quit. If I try to quit FF from Tray Icon it closes IE7 but FF itself will not quit. The Task Manager shows two copies of ISWLDR.dat running as well as one instance of ForceField.exe, ISWMGR.exe and ISWSVCexe after I told FF to quit via Tray Icon.

When I went into ZA Program Control ZAFFDiag.exe is not in the list. I did a search and it is present on the system in the ForceField folder. just not in the ZA Program Control list

Would you like to try a re-install of FF. I think that's what's needed.
1- uninstll FF - click here > http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...;message.id=85
- use this un-install instruction
2 - to install - > http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html
- have your license key handy
3 - during FF install - on your ZA Suite - temporarily shut-off main "privacy protection" = (this may have prevented/ restricted proper FF install the first time)
3A - in program control - temporarily lower from 'high to medium/ learning mode'
3B - keep ZA program open - and watch to see those 6 files I have
listed > show up as you install FF - give them 'allowances' as they pop-in.
3C - make sure all other security software is temporarily shut-off, windows defender, etc.
4 - make sure you have the ForceField toolbar show up in the top menu/ toolbar
area of IE page.
5 - when you open 'privacy protection' check for the 6 plus/ files
to see if they are not blocked, give full access.

1- ZAFFDiag.exe

2- ISWSVC.exe

~ if you check your pc "services" this one should be listed as 'started' "Automatic"

3- ForceField.exe
~
these three are usually on

4- ISWMGR.exe

~
these three are usually on

5- ISWLDR.dat

~
these three are usually on

6- Plugins\ISWUPDE.exe

~ this one is on during > auto updating of spyware scanner and spyware sites databaseIE Helpers "TrustCheckerIEPlugin.dll" both for BHO and Toolbar
- two listings.

I have tried your suggestions and it all appears to be installed and configured as you describe. Unfortunatly I still have the same problems IE7 hangs on quit,
FF components will not exit on system shutdown requiring manual force quit of iswmgr.exe. Force Field when told to quit from tray does not exit properly, it becomes inactive but several components remain in memory.
If I remove FF everything seems to work fine, IE& exits rapidly with no issues and system shutdown functions as it should.
Do you have any other suggestions?

You may want to try the latest 'new' version - just released 1.2.137 - it may have some fixes that may help your particular situation.
1- un-install your current FF - click here to un-install > http://forums.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/...;message.id=85
< and there is link within to install the latest version. Try to shut-off or lower
your security software set-up and allow FF to install without any potential conflicts. Use IE7.
You may wish to talk with a ZA product specialist...
