    Default Help with Resetting Zone Alarm

    I have the Zone Alarm "Security Suite." and Windows XP Home Edition

    I have looked and looked for a way to reset Zone Alarm to "New" status. I want to return it to it lowest level, where it has to review, relearn and grant access to all my programs ANEW.

    Is there a way to this short of deleting it completely and reinstalling it? I am a liuttle weary of that step.

    Thanks for assistance
    Peter - still wobbly

    Try resetting your database. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode. {Instructions if needed}
    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.
    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.
    4. Reboot into the normal mode.

    I never said Zone Alarm wasn't functioning properly. I was looking for instructions on how to RESET it - like starting from scratch - where it'd have to learn how to treat my programs all over again - as if for the first tmie.

    I want to return my ZA to "virgin" status

    - mainly 'cause I don't have another 71 versions waiting in line LOL!!

    Thank you sir - mission accomplished. Maybe, it might be a good idea in updates to have a BUTTON or TAB in the product info beside the "Change Lic.", "Renew" and "Change Reg" that simply allows a RESET to start from scratch.

    Thanks again

    You are most welcome. Here is an idea.... The next time you reset your settings why dont you save the "cleared-of-configuration-changes" condition to an XML file by using the Backup button on the preferences tab. You could name it something like "reset" or "preconfigured".Whenever you wanted to get back to that original state you would just do a restore of the program using that XML file.

    Good idea.

    Tell me, why did I have to boot from "Safe mode?" So none of the drivers etc., are loaded?

    I think the reason is that some of the program's compnonents rely on the settings in the files you want to delete so if you tried to delete them in normal windows mode you would be denied access to them to delete...."this file is in use...." is what you might be told if you didn't use safe mode.
