Thread: Outlook Needs To Close

    Default Outlook Needs To Close

OK, here's one that is really trying my patience. When Outlook does an 'automatic' send/receive, it crashes with the dreaded 'Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close' dialogue box. (the initial send/receive at startup goes OK).
I've tried a clean uninstall/install but it is still happening.
I know others have experienced this so why, oh why, are Zone labs not sorting it?
Any clues as to my next steps to cure it would be very gratefully received!

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Actually, other people have reported a similar issue - but I don't know if they got resolved or not.
    Try applying Service Pack 2http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

As you say, Jerusalem, several others seem to have had this problem and yet no-one seems to have a 'guaranteed' fix.
I'll try SP2 as you suggest and see how I get on.

OK, I've installed SP2 and all the other available updates for Outlook and it is still happening. Anyone got any other ideas?
This is really starting to bug me!

Can you do a manual send / receive and not have it crash?

    Hi Hov,
Yes, manual send/receive seems to be OK - as is the first automatic one on startup of Outlook. Strangely, not every automatic one crashes Outlook - only about every tenth one! Just enough to get me annoyed....

Go into the windows event viewer and see if there is any mention if the crashes. Also look in the alerts and logs section in ZA, and go to the programs listing and see if anything associated to Outlook is being blocked. If it is not everytime but every tenth time or so, that sounds more like some kind of setting has gone haywire.

Thanks for the advice Hoov. OK, here's the update:
Nothing in the programs access permission settings seems to be wrong.
Event viewer logs each failure as "Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8010.0, stamp 43d16d53, faulting module utdl.dll, version 5.1.2600.2180, stamp 411096b4, debug?0, fault address 0x0006ed1".
    any further ideas?
