    Hi,
This has actually happened to me before but it "went away" following another update (I mean AV updates etc not the program itself).
It's not going away this time though so I'll give it a few days and then maybe
    follow your lead.
This "technical support" kills me though - I think I'll be scanning the PC
mags looking for other Internet security alternatives come renewal time.
Looks like no-one in Zone Labs reads these or maybe they're just not bothered... how to win and keep customers. Not.
    Cheers,David.

I have exactly the same problem. Started yesterday - Dec 27 - have been unable to find solution except disable junk filter. Have spent six hours on this with no
outcome. I run a small business and have 5 PCs with ZA installed. My billing rate is $2 a minute. One more hour and I am out of here to go and earn some dosh.. Bye Bye ZA.

Grim isn't it. The "support options" are Premium (I should pay to find out why your software doesn't work because...), Instant Support (i.e. a Perl script - or similar) or these Forums which aren't owned by and don't look like they're patrolled at all by Zone Labs. The only email links listed, if you dig enough,
    are all for Sales!
Going to try Avanquest next since they "publish" Zone Alarm in the UK. Though if you email zonelabs@avanquest.co.uk as on the box it bounces back as an unknown email address!!!
This is actually pretty pathetic. I have Zone Alarm on 3 PCs and have never had a real support issue before but now I do I find there isn't any support!
    Corporate arrogance rules OK.
    Cheers,David.

    Same here
Two identical computers running and one wont start OE
Dr Watson goes haywire and hangs
OE will only run if junk filter in ZA is turned off

Yeah, y'all can add me to the list too.
I'm very concerned because I've started migrating other people's machines from Norton to ZA.
I feel that ZA flies a bit better on autopilot, so other folks don't need to know as much of what they are doing to avoid creating a mess that I'll have to straighten out.
However, if ZA works THIS BADLY, I'm going to start looking bad to other folks, including clients.
I'm hoping ZL will come forth with a fix, a big apology, and a heartfelt promise that it will NEVER happen again!
I sent the following info to tech support at **bleep**.
I had been referred to them by customer support.
(I brought up the issue after inquiring why I didn't get the Amazon $20 credit that was promised to me.)
The girl I spoke with told me that the email would reach the same technicians that charge $180/hr for phone support.
I would suggest y'all write in en masse.
Here is the info I sent:
    I am running:

XP Home, fully updated as of 12/31/06.

... on a late model machine w/ 2 GB RAM

ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6.5.737.000 (and AntiSpam 4.8.2.7565)

    Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
OE6 works fine when I turn off the Junk Email Filter.
    It's always worked fine.
It worked just fine under Norton, with their spam filter.
It worked fine under the PCillin trial.
But when I turn on the ZA Junk Email Filter, I run into trouble.
OE6 launches and loads the in-box
    with no trouble.
However, when I send/receive, I get the ZA spam filter spash screen, and within a fraction of a second get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library window that says...
    ------------------------------
    Buffer Overrun Detected
    Program: C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state.
The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated.
    (OK)
    -----------------------------
OE6 cannot be re-launched, even with spam filtering turned back off.
(OE6 hangs on the spash screen.)
The only way to access email is to turn the spam filtering off and then
    re-boot the machine.

Over the break checked my other 4 XP machines using ZA - no problem. Continued to run the problem machine with Junk Mail filter turned off. Thought seriously about dumping both AV and Express.
Sunday night (31Dec) decided to turn Junk Filter back on - works OK, no problems. Only dfference can have been AV and Spywarwe auto upgrade, there were no Microsoft upgrades in that time.

Still working OK but I have now lost confidence in ZA. Problems are one thing but no action from supplier and not knowing if it is actaully doing what it says it will is bad news.

    Looking for alternatives.

Funny.. I posted this to the list, but it didn't appear...
    So I'll post it again!
    <groan>
Y'all can add me to the list of folks who have problems with the ZASS
    junk email filter.
I've inquired and inquired, but so far nobody has offered any helpful solutions or fixes.
While calling customer service about another matter (their not coming through with a promised Amazon $20 credit), I inquired how to resolve this conflict without having to pay them $180/hr to scratch their heads to fix their own bug.
The customer service rep told me she'd submit a report to the tech support team and that the matter would be resolved through email (for free) with the exact same people who charge $180/hr on the phone.
Apparently the email address for the tech support folks is...
    **bleep**
(I suggest you all write to them to ask what gives.)
I don't know how much you can expect.
They've written me back with what appears to be an utterly
    meaningless
    computer-generated response, saying
The following data is incompatible with the receiving project:
Field: Zone Labs Product (Project field not present)

Original Data: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 6.5
Field: Internal Issue Type (Project field not present)

    Original Data: Product Support Request
    I wrote the following back:
Thanks for handling this tech support issue!
    Unfortunately I do not
understand the email you sent me.
Following is a full description of the
    problem:

    I am running:

XP Home, fully updated as of 12/31/06.

... on a late model machine w/ 2 GB RAM

ZoneAlarm Security Suite 6.5.737.000 (and AntiSpam 4.8.2.7565)

    Outlook Express 6.00.2900.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)

OE6 works fine when I turn off the Junk Email Filter.
    It's always worked
    fine.
It worked just fine under Norton, with their spam filter.
    It worked
    fine under the PCillin trial.

But when I turn on the ZA Junk Email Filter, I run into trouble.
    OE6
launches and loads the in-box with no trouble.
    However, when I
send/receive, I get the ZA spam filter spash screen, and within a fraction
of a second get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library window that says...

    ------------------------------

    Buffer Overrun Detected

    Program: C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE

A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's
    internal state.
The program cannot safely continue execution and must now
    be terminated.

    (OK)

    -----------------------------

OE6 cannot be re-launched, even with spam filtering turned back off.
    (OE6
    hangs on the spash screen.)
The only way to access email is to turn the
spam filtering off and then re-boot the machine.

For all it's worth, I'm running the exact same software on two other XPHome
boxes at my home and a client's Win2K machine, all without any trouble
(except perhaps for a veeeeery slow launch of the spam filtering on one of
    my machines).
ZL software had worked well so far, and I had decided to
transition my clients' machines from Norton, but this problem has me very
    concerned.

What's happening, and how can I bring peace between ZA and OE?
    Or can I?

    Hmmmm....
I'm trying to give y'all the tech support email address, but it's automatically "bleeped."
    The "bleep" looks like this..
**bleep**(Note here: I actually typed an email address where the "bleep" is.)
    Let's try it this way...
    s u p p o r t @ z o n e l a b s . c o m
There, that should get through... unless it's manually bleeped.
    Write in.
    Let them know your pain.
When we spend $50 for a software package, it should work.
And if it doesn't, they certainly shouldn't expect $180/hr to fix it for us!
If anything, they should offer compensation to us for having to waste OUR valuable time scratching our heads about THEIR bug.
This problem seems to have gone on since at least mid-October, judging from the message boards, and yet, still no solution after 75 days.
    No surprise Xmas present.
Perhaps a bug-free ZASS would be a good New Year's resolution????
    geeeesh....

    Same problem,
Outlook express will not start until I disable the junk email on zone alarm. How do I contract zone alarm to take care of.

JPAAV came up with the following
    fix;

I suppose this would be the typical solution one would get for 3 bucks a minute.
But anyway, I reinstalled the suite and chose 'clean install' to see if that would reestablish the filter.
I did not uninstall anything, simply did a reinstall.
This worked, but for how long???
    Outlook Express opens properly and the junk filter tool bar is there. Or you can try S U P P O R T @ Z O N E L A B S. C O M
