    Default SLOW startup, scanning messages

When I start up outlook (2002), I get a ZA pop up stating that it is scanning incoming messages.

It works fine. However, it takes a LONG time. In the message it says it's scanning some 177 messages.

My question is: where are these 177 messages. I thought it was only NEW messages and NOT those already on
my computer (PST file). I only have a dozen new messages or so at a given time.

So where is ZA coming up with 177???

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:7.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    Hey there,
    Not sure what ZASS is...
I do recall this working before (i.e. not taking as long and not as many msgs to scan).
I have always been on this version of outlook.
Curious where these 177 messages are? I thought ZA did not scan messages already on your computer - but only new messages. NOway I have 177 new messages.
I checked the various spam folders, only a handful there.

ZASS is acronym for Zone Alarm Security Suite.
Is it correct that you have ZASS, that's what's indicated in your first post?
If not please indicate what ZA product you are using?
Since I'm in reply mode here I can't see your first post right now, did you indicate what version of ZASS, if not, what is it
    - to get it, right click on Z icon
in you tray, copy to clipboard and paste to next post.
HMM! You said working before, so have you installed any addins to Outlook 2002?
Did you upgrade from one version of ZASS to another when this happened?

Are you current on upgrades to Outlook 2002?
SP3 was last service packIt is Outlook 2002?
How to check: open Outlook, click on Help, click on About Microsoft OutlookDoes it inidcated SP3?
If not advisable, to get update from microsoft.
Have you added any other anti-spam programs?
What happens when you close out of Outlook 2002 and go back in?
Do you get the 177 scan message again?
    Any error message?
In other words, did you do an update, then open ZASS get the 177 message and then post to this forum?
I asking if this multiple messages happens every time you open Outlook?

I'm experiencing a similar problem and have been since I installed.

I start Outlook, the Mailfrontier dialog box comes up and it tells me that it's scanning 700+ messages (there are 1939 unread messages in my inbox...where is the 700 coming from?)

It runs through these and then exits. Until it runs through them, I can't use outlook.

The interesting thing is I have ZASS installed on another computer (same installation, I got a 3 key license) and it doesn't have the problem.

I know I've seen the solution to this somewhere in these forums but I can't find it.

If you find the fix please let me know - it is very annoying and as you said I can't use outlook until it completes
