Default Unable To Send E-Mails

I have ZoneAlarm Security Suite v. 8.0.059.000 (licensed version) and I use Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.19 as my e-mail software.

In the last few days, I have been unable to send e-mails --incoming e-mails are received without any problem!-- and I get the following errors. I know that this is a ZoneAlarm issue because I am able to send e-mails if I shut down ZoneAlarm... I have never had such a problem before. My ISP claims that they have nothing to do with this problem and they do not support SSL...

SERVER CERTIFICATE EXPIRED
"localhost" is a site that uses a certificate to encrypt
data during transmission, but its certificate expired on
1/10/2009 5:34PM.

I also get the following error message:

SEND MESSAGE ERROR
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP
server mail.waymark.net failed. The server may be unavailable
or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your
SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else
contact your network administrator.

Does anyone have any suggestions? (Other than to shut down ZoneAlarm every time that I want to send an email!!)

Thanks.

I forgot to mention that under Tunderbird's Security Settings, the option Use Secure Connection has the radio button set to Never.

1.) does Thunderbird or your Email client have Super Trusted Three Green Bars and two Green check marks for Tursted and Internet Access and Green check mark for Send mail in ZA Program control?2.) do you have your DHCP and ISP's DNS mail Servers listed in ZA Firewall - Zone Area Listed in the Trusted Zone and not Internet zone?

Thanks, George, for your reply.

With regards to your suggestion #2, I went to Firewall -> Zones and changed everything in the Zone column to TRUSTED. (The only thing that was set to INTERNET was the first entry which has the name of my ISP in the Name column. Please let me know if I should change its zone back to INTERNET for security reasons etc., otherwise I'll leave it as TRUSTED.)

I now seem to be able to send e-mail again, so I think that your suggestion #2 is what solved the problem.

Thanks for your help.
