I've been plagued by the same problem for the last 6 weeks, ever since I upgraded to ZAISS 8.0.298.035.
I've also seen a marked increase in random reboots during the same period. The other thing I've noticed, while not especially harmful, is that the Junk E-mail & Anti-Fraud Filter no longer shows its progress through downloaded e-mails; instead, the box where the green bar appears remains blank while the Filter processes e-mails (meaning you can't tell if it's working or not).
I've scrubbed ZA off the computer several times and reinstalled it, all to no avail.
ZA Technical Support tells me they can't replicate the problem, so they've got no suggestions!
Today, I finally said enough and reinstalled ZAISS 8.0.059.000.
Problem solved!
But I don't get any of the improved features.
Hopefully, the next version
will fix the problem.
I'll try it when it's released, but keep a copy of 8.0.059.000 handy in case it doesn't.

It is Sometimes very Difficult to Diagnose and fix a Computer from halfway across the Country,
without All the Details, without the ability to sit in front of your Computer monitor and see what's going on..
If you would Describe your Computer Setup/OS and Version of Zone Alarm that you are having a problem with
and what difficulty you are having, and what Previous Version of ZA and Norton, McAfee or other Security programs that you have installed,
there are several knowledgeable Volunteer Participants willing to help you try solving your problem with Zone Alarm..=====================It looks like your Have Corrupted your Installed ZA files..The simplest procedure is to :1.Download the Latestinstallerpreferably with IE Browserand no Download Manager/accelerator like Get-Right, Livewire, BitTorrent) (MultiPlatform, installer will install on Both WinXP and Vista)ZASS http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html2. On your current ZA, UNcheck "Load ZA... at startup" (under Overview --> Preferences tab)3. Reboot the Computer. So that vsmon.exe/TrueVector will be removed from Memory4.) Now use the new ZoneAlarm Removal Tool: Click here > http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exeSave to desktop, right click and "run as administrator"This tool will remove all ZoneAlarm products from your system.

Please just download and run the tool, following the instructions.
(you can un-install without net connections)5.) Install the new update (clean or upgrade) and Accept the default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..NOTICE:Please note that ZASS and ZAXSdo not play nice with many overlapping security tools (even if disabled). To troubleshoot ZASS/ZAXS issues removethe other Security programsand install them back once you see that ZA works as it should. For example,Norton/Symantec, McAfee,AVG, Spyspweeper, Spyware Doctor, trojan hunter, adware, SpyBotS&D, PC tools Threat Fire, any otherAnti-virus, Anti-spyware, Registry Guard or locking tools, etc...--------------------------------------------------------

I finally got around to upgrading to ZASS 8.0.400.020 this past week. (I'd put it off because if it didn't solve the problem, I was then going to have to scrub it off and reinstall 8.0.059.000 -- and that's a lot of work!) The result? While 8.0.400.200 solved another problem I was having (OE blowing up when I tried to reply or forward an e-mail), it didn't solve this particular problem.

I can switch from one e-mail identity to another (using the "Switch Identity" option from the File menu), but when I try to switch a second time, OE blows up. To get to the next identity, I have to click the OE icon again. Then I'm good to go and can even switch to another identity without a problem, but when I go to switch identities another time, OE blows up. And it continues to do that every second attempt at switching identities.

(More in the next post ...)

The other manifestation of the problem remains, too. Any time the Junk Email And Anti-Fraud Filter runs, the green bar that's supposed to show its progress through the newly-downloaded e-mails doesn't appear until the process is finished. It remains blank while processing the e-mails, so you have no way to know that it's even doing its job until it's done.

Fyi, to install 8.0.400.200, I did a complete "clean" uninstall of 8.0.059.000, following the directions step by step and using CPES, before I installed 8.0.400.200.

ZA Tech Support can't replicate the problem. Anybody have any suggestions for a possible resolution?

Oh, I probably should have mentioned that I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 with all critical updates installed.

And for the record, I've again scrubbed off ZASS 8.0.400.020 and gone back to 8.0.059.000, the last version which doesn't have this problem.

I am wondering if this is kin to the conflict between Microsoft XP upates and ZA I am seeing. If ZA runs, internet is dead. Remove ZA and internet is restored. The problem occurred within minutes of installation of MS updates.

This Problem is cause when You fool around the the Default ZA Settings, or when the Program you are trying to Run is not Granted Permition to access the Internet.. That is what The ZA Firewall is Designed to do..Check ZA Control Center ProGram control / Program page..Make sure the Program you are using has Two Green check marks from the Left and if this is a Paid Version of ZoneAlarm the Program should also have two or three Green Bars in front of the check marks..Did that help..?If Not then a Rest of your ZA Data Base may be needed..reset: Corrupt Data reset (only with latest ZA version):1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system 6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

George, are you suggesting these procedures for resolving my problem or the one that GrandpaCarl inquired about? It's not clear.

For what it's worth, I hadn't "fooled around" with the Default Settings in ZASS 8.0.400.020 when my problem appeared.

Since ZAISS 8.0.400.020 solved one problem I was having (OE blowing up when I replied to an e-mail), I decided to try ZAISS 9.0.083.000 in hopes that it would solve this problem.

Well, it didn't. The problem remains. When I switch between e-mail accounts in OE, every second switch causes the app to blow up. If I turn off the Junk E-mail Filter, the problem goes away. But I get enough junk e-mail, I NEED the filter! And when I turn it back on, the problem returns.

This is definitely a ZA problem, specifically a SonicWall mail filter problem. As always, I'm open to suggestions. Nothing I've done has improved the situation.
