Default Unwanted internet connection starts up after boot up. A virus?

    BT240 ADSL RouterWin XP +SP2
I was having problems with a programme and to see if it was ZA was the culprit, i momentarily turned off ZA, thinking i'd turn it back on moments later. I forgot to turn it back on though. While I was away,
    a second Local Area Connection
notification icon appeared on the taskbar. I was being hacked! It had been busy sending and recieving data.
Since then i have noticed web pages are slow to load, msn messenger struggles to come on. and when i restart the pc, it takes ages to load ZA.
I have done several scans with ZA but to no avail. I have also tried using AVG anti spyware and Counterspy. All not showing a thing.
Now, if i turn off ZA completely this additional internet connection appears everytime on start up.
I really do think i have a virus. Just cant seem to find it. Any ideas would be welcome. Sorry for lack of technical info, im not that computer literate
when it comes to internet/ports/firewalls etc.

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite
    Software Version:6.5

MERRY CHRISTMAS and Welcome to the Forum!

PLEASE go to the following site and have them check your computer for any type of bugs that may or may not be causing your problems.

    Download Ewido

After the installation, search for updates and download any available. Start your computer in safe mode, open Ewido, press scanner, complete system scan, fix anything that is found, next run a full virus scan also fix any problems you have. Restart your computer normally and run some more scans with Ewido and your virus scanner, to make sure your clean. If after the second round of scans the trojan still exist we will have to turn off system restore, go back into safe mode again going through the same procedure as before but see if this works first.

PLEASE keep me posted on your results, THANKS.

Is your firmware in the router updated? Your computer is behind the router and not in the DMZ isn't it?
