    Default Help! I've been infected!!!

My machine hung up and when I rebooted, the security settings of all my files were changed.
I thought this might have been a good thing while it was happening...boy was I wrong!
I can't restore, Internet Explorer won't start, when I open a Word document I am told that the document "is not registered" and I won't be able to link to it.
    This is just for starts.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP2.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum!

PLEASE reboot your ccmputer, while it is rebooting, start tapping F8, until you get to the DOS (black screen), scroll down until you see "Last Known Good Configuration", PLEASE click on that and it should reboot your computer. PLEASE let me know if this solves your problem, THANKS.

    Nope.
    Nothing.
Windows still works (always did), but many of the apps don't.
What does changing the "security settings" of the files mean?
And why didn't ZoneAlarm catch it?

Does it sound like a ZoneAlarm problem?
    Thanks,
    Jim

If you open a bad email, for example, it can do damage infecting, as the AV tries to kill it. Changing security settings on your files sounds like it has infected system files. I'd suggest that you make a backup FAST of everything important onto CD if you can, because you may need to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS.Marcus

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've been infected...just wondering if anyone out there has heard of this type of virus?
Also wondering if System Mechanic might have something to do with it.

Hi!which version of ZASS are you using?System Mechanics may conflict with ZASS version 7. If this is the case, please uninstall it.You may want to run this free AV to check your system (to run in SAFE MODE) http://www.freedrweb.com Fax
