    Default PerformanceOptimizer remnant

WE recently were infected with the PerformanceOptimizer.
Was able to get it removed.
EXCEPT, desktop, which had been taken over by their wallpaper is now white, and I cannot change it.
Icons are showing up and working, but our desktop background seems to be lying underneath the white screen, where their logo used to sit.
How do I get rid of this?
    Any ideas?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

If the display properties is blanked out and does not work. In the right click of a blank section of the Desktop and select Properties and then adjust the Desktop and check Appearance for the color setting and wallpaper. Then there is something still left behind from the performanceoptimizer on the hard disk drive.

Check the list here and manually make sure all possible remmants are gone.

    Best regards.

But I've been through all of that.. Still no luck.

    Still have a white desktop.
I've done a search on all the files on my puter for anything related to performanceoptimizer.
    Registry, too.
    Nothing there.

    Dear flowergail:

Have you checked the Registry here:

Original Wallpaper=(clear any value data here)
    Wallpaper=(clear any value data here)

    Hope this helps.
