Thanks very much for your quick reply. Unfortunately I'm really a novice with the computer!
I'm using the "latest" version of ZoneAlarm Security Suite with Windows 7 as OS and IE as browser?
The pop-ups and under-pops are large screen and many advise that the system is infected and I must run a scan and want me to download something to do that or they're just general ads.
This started just during the last few days of the 2 week free trial of ZA but has become significantly worse since I installed the paid-for version 2 days ago.
We have just replaced the hard drive about 3 weeks ago due to persistent "freezing" problems that couldn't be resolved by the technician.
They suggested ZA.
It was good for the almost the first 2 weeks of trial - but now these full-screen ad pop-ups are really invasive!
Sorry I can't be more technical.
Thanks for any help!

Sounds like spyware/malware,
Usually installs with activeX or javascripts using the IE on less than reputable web sites.
Any chance of describing the contents of the popups or window - this will help figure out what it is (define) and then remove it (cleanup).
Many of these rogue popups are easy to remove and cleanup.

BTW, you have done a complete antiviru and antispyware scan?

Hi again, Yes, I keep doing scans for viruses and spyware and updating database etc.
Spyware scans usually list several found spyware. Pop-ups are large screen - usually "pop-unders", sometimes they say that the computer is badly infected and I should run a scan (after I've just run one) and invite me to download something.
Another one just came up advertising cars.
But they are usually large screen and behind the working window.
I've been keeping cookie control on high and ad blocker on high as well.
Thanks again...
