    I have read so much on this file and have yet to understand do I need it or what it actually does.

    I've had the basic free firewall on my system for years now and I see this file under processes on task manager too (Windows Home Ed), so it must be part of the firewall, or the basic (VBS only) email protection. Never tried to shut it down, but I'm guessing you do need it. The only other process I see for ZoneAlarm is zlclient.exe.

    That doesn't explain exactly what it does, but it hopefully narrows down the possibilities, lol.

    Free tool from MS to help window users what is running, where it is, what dll it uses, and tons of more information and it has a search engine built in.
    It is basically the task manager (CTRL+ALT+DELE) you always wanted and never had.

    Have a good look over with the tool - lots of nooks and crannies to get more details and do not forget to use the properties of the listed applications for even more details.
