Default invades and generates lots of pop-ups

Every few minutes (even without a browser called up) IE7 starts with and then loads of pop-ups start clogging up everything.
Often there is a lot of phony stuff about scanning for viruses and recommending I go to other sites to download antivirus programs.

Antivirus 2009 is one pop-up.
Sportsbook is another.
Ringtones is another.
How did ZA let this in?
How do I get rid of it?
Thanks for any help.

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
Software Version:8.0
Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Attention Gyrobob, first de-activate your link to sagipsulSign-in > go to original post > Thread Options > Edit > take out the "www." out of the link.:0 when you have a malware infection - it's really
not a good idea to write an 'active' link - you can leave out the "www" - we understand. is good enough.
Ok, click here >
= this is specialty 'malware removal forum' where they have experts who will guide you in removing this malware infection. From my preliminary 'google' search - geekstogo has two posts with promise. Sign-in to their forum and follow their instructions.
Do Not click on to any of the pop-up links that you see.
If this 'infected' pc is the same as your 4 other posts complaining about 'not
able to connect to ZA' well the infection
is the cause. Malware can disrupt proper connection.
After geekstogo helps you remove your infection - you may want to get free: McAfee SiteAdvisor, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Further - if
you wish you may want to consider ZA ForceField or Webroot SpySweeper Anti-spyware (only).
