Default Buzus / Back Door & More - PostArticles.Net MSN Messenger

I am getting a lot of viruses showing in quarantine which has been going on for about 10 days.
But Zone Alarm does not appear to be removing the malware which simply reappears.
    Symptoms are:
    1. Various forms Buzus and Backdoor showing in logs
(About 3-4 different versions of each over 10 days)2. Suspicious
with winlogon.exe (which I think may have been hijacked to download more viruses....)3. I am getting pop errors occasionally saying "Picture cannot be displayed", usally when MSN Messenger is or has been used by my son (who might be in a great deal of troiuble over this !!!)
    This web link http://malwarecrawler.com/?tag=postarticlesnet
describes what might be the same malware and
attributes the problem to using MSN which is used on this PC. The author suggests using Kapreski's AV tool to remove it,
although I thought Kasperki's technology was used in Zone Alarm.
Anyone got any suggestions about how to get rid of the problem and prevent it happening again?

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:4.x
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Thanks I will try it and see where it gets me.
User tip - wouldn't it be good idea to have a link to this in the
    Zone Alarm Scan GUI?

    pgrant,

You're welcome! Your suggestion is interesting but I'm just a user in a user's forum; no zone alarm employees here except moderator.

FinleySlight problem.....I managed to disable system restore.
I managed to get into Safe Mode (using F8)...but when I tried to start Zone Alarm through the menu, the application would not open.
I tried the link on How to Start in SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING and all it shows is a list of COMMANDS.
It does not tell me how start SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.

    In
the meantime, I will try MBAM to see what happens.
    Thanks Patrick

FindleyThanks for your help so far.
    I haven't nailed it yet.
    Still working on it.
With a bit of luck someone from Zone Alarm may see my last comment and act on it.
Every now again there seems to be a bit of malware that limbo dances and gets under the bar.

pgrant, I was reading your thread and you list Software Version :4.X

Would you right click ZoneAlarm icon next to the clock and click About...

It will give you the your current version and post it so forum members get a better idea of your issues.

You could try doing this way if you can. When you reply, right Click on the ZA Tray icon on the Lower Right and Click the "About" Option this will pop up a windows with all the Info about your Version Of ZA including the complete Version Number.. Click the "Copy to Clipboard" and Paste that information Here in the Forum by pressing the "CTRL-V" key..

    Patrick,

How's it going? Did you nail all the malware? Or still working on it? Or have you posted a hijackthis log at bleepingcomputer?
As to stuff getting through - it's been my experience that no software catches everything and that most of the trouble of the infectious kind gets through because of bad stuff being downloaded, visiting questionable sites, opening email attachments from unknown sources and the list goes on from there.

Hope this finds you infection free
