    Default WinPC Defender

Has anyone heard of WinPC Defender??

Sunday morning it got onto my new computer(not this one) It came in the form of a very alarming warning message, looked exactly like a real Windows Security note. It would not go away. I found some reference on the Inet to it with the advice to download Spyware Doctor which could fix it. When Spyware Doctor downloaded, it arrived "disabled," would not do anything. I finally turned computer off. Later, when I turned it back on it would work but not quite right. I scanned it (this lasted 19+ hours) but the spyware scan does not work at all.

One last thing is that Kapersky AV scanning pop-up from Zone Alarm is trying to do something but cannot. This pop-up also will not go away.

Does anyone have any experience with this?? Is it safe to use the computer? Any suggestions?

Why did Zone Alarm Security Suite not stop this attack?

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:5.x
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

WinPC Defender is a new rogue anti-spyware program discovered by security analyst S!Ri and is a clone of the programs named XP Police Antivirus and IE Security. Like its predecessors, this program is installed and advertised through the use of Trojans that display fake security alerts on your computer. These security alerts state that your computer is infected and that you should click on them in order to download software that will protect you. Once you click on these alerts, the Trojan will automatically download and install the program on your computer. The previous information quoted is from the How to Remove WinPC Defender a removal guide with detailed instructions at bleepingcomputer

    hope this helps,
