Default Browser Security Test Failure - Ping Reply

I need someone's help please in telling me if this is either nothing to be concerned about or if there is a fix to it in ZA Internet Security Suite.

I ran a "Shield's Up" browser security test and the only error that it gave me was that my system replied to their ping. That's it. It was after they did a port scan. It said that I should configure the firewall to ignore, block or drop the request.

Could someone please tell me how to do so or if it's really even necessary?

    Thanks.

    Hi pressmoon

Turn off the reply to ping in the router to fix this. It is the router that is tested not the Zone Alarm or the PC itself. The router is first in line so it was tested instead of the PC. The router stopped the scan from reaching the PC.

Go into the router and try it and then try that port scan once more.

Is it really neccessary?? Maybe if you need your laptop to callup the home PC, if you happen to be in a wifi cafe or somehere else away from home. Other than that not really.

Is it a security risk?? Maybe. A hacker will get a reply if he pings you (the router), so yes then he knows you are there and where. But the router will drop all unsolicited packets or connections and so will the Zone Alarm on top of that. Chances are he will give up and find an easier target. So no not really.

Mine is turned off- no reply to pings- many users will do it this way.

Thanks again OldSod. You seem to cover it all and I'll look for the router settings to stop the ping.

Where in the zonealarm router do you stop the reply to ping. Go to my.firewall then where?
