Default Malware that hijacks the desktop background registry

Hi,I have had two interesting and annoying problems occur with my computer; 1) my desktop wallpaper all of a sudden disappeared and is disabled through control panel, and 2) my screensaver does not work when two user accounts are open.
It works fine when only one user account is logged on.
Both problems occurred on two separate occasions when Zone Alarm was soliciting me for purchasing the "internet security" package.

This was after I could not get a correct license key for purchase of the antivirus program and after a free trial of the internet security software.
I find it a weird coincidence in the timing and wonder if Zone Alarm puts the problem in itself in order to aggravate potential customer (who otherwise have no problems with their computers). Could it be that
think that ZoneAlarm is either permitting these viruses to hijack my registry or they are hijacking the registry themselves in order to plant an aggravating, yet only on the level of nuisance problem, to
convince us that we need Zonealarm?

    Just a thought.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Antivirus

I fixed the problem and it is due to malware called Spysheriff and I quote, "SpySheriff is a rogue anti-spyware application that uses fake and false positives as a goad into scaring you into purchasing their software."
    Just what I thought.
Kind of coincidental that Zonealarm keeps bugging me everyday to "update" for $49.95.
When I click on the"update" link, there is no update only an option to purchase the next level up (an upgrade not an update)
    $49.95.
    It is very annoying.

Hi sorry for not answering correctly the first time.

Okay a good remover for this type of spyware is superantispyware.

    Download a freeware version here>

    http://www.superantispyware.com/

This usually completely removes the SpySherriff.

There is a specialized tool for removing this also>

    http://siri.geekstogo.com/SmitfraudFix.php

This will remove this malware for good.

    best regards.
