Thread: my ports are not stealthed when i do a test on shields up

Default my ports are not stealthed when i do a test on shields up

i thought i'd do a little experiment with za.

i turned off my router firewall and set the router to dmz my computer.

then i went to shields up (http://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2) and did an all service ports scan, and instead of all my ports coming up as stealthed (green) they are all closed (blue) which is a total failure of za i think.

what is going on here? surely this shouldn't happen. i am thinking of doing a clean install of za but i thought i'd ask here first.

    cheers

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Pro
    Software Version:7.0

Yep, not normal....Just few checks on settings.1. Did you disabled NAT on the router?2. Do you have the firewall setting to HIGH (internet zone)?3. Have you moved your network from trusted to internet?Given that you see all closed ports I guess question 1 is the culprit, at least this is what is happening on simple NAT devices.Hope this helps,Fax

[1. Did you disabled NAT on the router?]

i disabled the routers firewall and i set it up so that it was allowing all traffic through to the computer (dmz).

[2. Do you have the firewall setting to HIGH (internet zone)?]

    yes i do.

[3. Have you moved your network from trusted to internet?]

no i haven't - network is set to internet. the computers on the network are set to trusted using an ip range setting.

Hi!still looks like your router is doing NAT on your connection.... otherwise you should not see all ports closed... and if ZA is not working you should also see open ports (here and there).Well, in case your ZA installation is corrupted try to reset it. His the router out of the game? Not just demilitarized zone...Is your modem doing NAT? Check brand name and google it or check manual...Your PCIP start with 192.168.xx.xxx? Check with ipconfig /allFax

right still can't get it to work. can you have a look at this image and see if i have anything set wrongly here that would be causing my ports to only be closed instead of stealthed.

my own computer is 192.168.1.2 so i haven't included it in the ip range here. the other ip's are for laptops on the network.

    --edit--

right, i just did a test on one of the networked laptops (which has za free installed) and it failed the test too. all blue instead of green.

Nope, you still have the router in between...You should not see 192.168.XX.XX but the your ISP given network... i.e. you still have NAT enabled...Fax
