    Default program wanting access

I installed a newer version of Open Office and got an alert that something was trying to gain access. I denied it and it didn't affect the OO download or anything else. I searched Google but there is nothing listed. How can I tell if it's safe to allow access to my computer when I'm not knowledgeable about programs or dangers?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro x64
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Sorry, I misunderstood your original post. Its likely OO wants access to the Internet for the same reason other office programs do. User files such as Write and Presentation documents can contain embedded hyperlinks and they need access to the Interent access them. Also programs sometimes download extra components not included in the basic install package.

Check the details of what wants access when the Alert appears. It should be safe to grant OO access.
