Default ZoneAlarm Free version - anti-virus monitoring

I am running Windows Vista and have Norton Antivirus 2007 with the free version of ZoneAlarm

ZoneAlarm will not detect and monitor my anti-virus, even though the help manual says it supports symantec products.

Is there an issue with this particular version of norton antivirus and zonealarm?

Norton antivirus reports that it is running. Is it possible I have a virus that has disabled norton, but still reports it as running? I guess it would help to understand how zonealarm recognizes antivirus software.

Operating System:Windows Vista Ultimate
Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

Please don't worry about it.
What you can do is find a place to tell ZA free to stop minitoring N.AV.
Not all are listed/monitored.

Probably the Windows security center can tell you if AV isn't running. But they, too, don't list all AVs.

Does ZoneAlarm Antivirus monitoring feature recognize my antivirus software?

Currently, the Antivirus Monitoring feature will recognize the following antivirus products:

SYMANTEC<ul>[*]Norton Internet Security 2005[*]Norton AntiVirus 2005[*]Norton Internet Security Pro 2004[*]Norton AntiVirus Pro 2004[*]Norton Internet Security 2003[*]Norton AntiVirus/AntiVirus Pro 2003[*]Norton AntiVirus 2002
MCAFEE<ul>[*]Internet Security 2005[*]VirusScan 2005[*]VirusScan ASAP[*]Internet Security 2004[*]VirusScan/VirusScan Pro 2004[*]Internet Security 2003[*]VirusScan/VirusScan Pro 7[*]VirusScan Pro 6
TREND MICRO<ul>[*]Pc-cillin Internet Security 2005[*]Pc-cillin Internet Security 2004[*]Pc-cillin 2003[*]Pc-cillin 2002
COMPUTER ASSOCIATES<ul>[*]eTrust EZ Antivirus 7[*]eTrust EZ Antivirus 6.0[*]eTrust EZ Antivirus 6.1[*]eTrust EZ Antivirus 6.2
The Antivirus Monitoring feature is designed to keep your computer safe by detecting installed antivirus software products and alerting you to lapses in protection. This feature can be considered a second line of defense in the event your antivirus auto update feature has been disabled, we will notify you that there is an update for your antivirus program available.

<hr><hr>As long as you know your anti-virus is running - that is what is important; the 'monitoring' feature in ZA is more of a convenience rather than a primary security feature. You can even &quot;shut-off&quot; the monitor if your anti-virus is not on the list.

If you look closely you will not see the latest Norton 2007 Anti-virus; { from the ZA website list above - it looks as though they have not updated the information or possibly this particular &quot;anti-virus monitoring feature&quot; will not be updated; the four basic security software companies are constantly changing/updating their anti-virus with various formulations=(caution - sometimes when you try to get McAfee Virus Scan Plus or Norton Anti-virus 2007/2008 = they will come with firewall protection /and anti-spyware &gt; having the &quot;extra firewall protection&quot; with ZoneAlarm firewall
has a high potential for conflicts/ problems {there should only be one running firewall, and only one anti-virus running on any pc/laptop} [ Norton - disguises/renames it's firewall protection as &quot;Internet Worm Protection&quot; = many users that have had problems with ZA and Norton &gt; needed to shut off Norton's &quot;Internet Worm Protection&quot; in order for the whole combination to work.]

Tip: if you have ZA firewall products and use another outside brand of anti-virus software &gt; you need to make sure you only download and install the anti-virus portion {some anti-virus's will allow you to install without the firewall;
others will not }
&gt; otherwise you may need to un-install or delete any firewall modules/files later. Many of the popular anti-virus software are not &quot;plain&quot; anti-virus &gt; they come with plus'es / extras - which include firewall, anti-spyware - you can keep the anti-spyware but the firewall portion 'would most probably need to be un-installed/ deleted. Please read the 'fine print' of the software's features/ benefits/ requirements on their website.<hr>NaiveMelody NYC 10-30-07 - Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get - The Dramatics
