Default Zone alarm updates...again I'm sure

Hi, I've had trouble with ZA updates (automatic and apparently not virus/spyware updates)slowing down and even freezing my computer. Well, I thought, I'll just set it to manual so I can play a game and not be interrupted. Didn't work. I'm still getting freezes etc. while playing because ZA is still doing updates even though it's set to manual. Help!

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Hi,Welcome to the Forum! If you want to try this solution?

PLEASE try the following, as this will bring the firewall back to the original settings.

I think is your Zone Alarm database has gotten corrupt and does not remember your Zones settings. Reset your database and see if that will fix it. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

MAKE SURE you remove ALL the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.

    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.

    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.

    4.Then empty the Recycle Bin.

    5. Reboot into the normal mode.

How Do I Boot Into Safe Mode?

I also am having problems with automatic update freezing. Here is following:

    Windows Vista Home Premium OS
    ZA Security Suite v7.1.078
    Webroot "Spy Sweep" spyware program

When waking computer back up after sitting idle for some time, I notice the arrow in the task bar icon is present. (system always on-line). When I bring up the ZA program and go to the Anti-virus/Spyware tab, I notice that the update box is grayed out and busy. It just hangs there and never apparently completes the update.

It appears the only way to stop this is to reboot. I have gone in and defeated automatic updating of both anti-virus and spyware as well as Program updates. Since I use another spyware program, I have unchecked the spyware function in ZA altogether. After waking the computer with these settings, I can open ZA, go to anti-virus tab and manually hit update which then performs as it should. The program scans automatically (anti-virus) at the time I have set so that part is working correctly.
