Default Zone Alarm Blocks MS Active Sync

I just installed ZA (free), and now, I can't sync w/ my cell phone via MS Active Sync.
Looked up the active sync debugger, and it said to add the 4 Active Sync programs to the ZA list, which I did, but still can't sync.
Seems that ZA is blocking the port on which Active Sync communicates.
    Any help appreciated.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm (Free)

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I am very sorry that you are having issues with ZA and hopefully I will be able to help you find a solution.

PLEASE try the following, as this will bring the firewall back to the original settings.

I think is your Zone Alarm database has gotten corrupt and does not remember your Zones settings. Reset your database and see if that will fix it. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

MAKE SURE you remove ALL the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files.

Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.

    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.

    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.

    4.Then empty the Recycle Bin.

    5. Reboot into the normal mode.

How Do I Boot Into Safe Mode?

Hi, I'm having the same problem as the original poster.
I've added the 4 programs and even set the Zone to be TRUSTED for the Windows Mobile-based Device (169.254.2.2/255.255.255.0)
I followed your steps for booting in Safe Mode and removing backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb from the c:\windows\internet logs folder. This still does not work for me.

I'm using ZoneAlarm Free v7.0.473.000 on Windows XP Home.

Please help as I have not been able to sync for a couple of weeks already.
Not allowing ZoneAlarm to run on StartUp does not help the situation either.
I can sync at work (no firewalls), but my laptop with ZoneAlarm Free will not.

    TIA,
    Walt

Make sure the device exist under firewall zones section. Should be a subnet adapter. Could be a Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter.

Next check your logs under log viewer alert type programs. As you try to sync through the usb cable, a log entry of a ip address shows up blocked. The time stamp should correspond to the time you tried to sync through the cable. Enter that ip address as a trusted ip by adding it in the firewall zones section.

Shut down computer. Wait about 10 seconds. Reboot the OS and connect your device. Sync happens within a couple of mins or so. See if this works.
