Default Automatic Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware Updates running too frequently

I have uninstalled and reinstalled ZoneAlarm Security Suite (v 8.0.059.000)
at least 3 times now and still encounter the same problem:
The automatic update feature for the Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware runs about every 2 hours, sometimes as much as
    once an hour.
It frequently to reports a successful download of the Anti-Virus signatures and installs them...
I have changed the update settings between 12 Hours, 24 Hours and every 6 hours.
The only option left is every 3 hours, and since it still runs every 1 to 2 hours I gave up.
What registry setting is not being updated or read correctly?
Is it possible that the registry setting doesn't exist and ZA defaults to this behavior?
I am running Windows XP SP3, fully patched.
    Thank you,Michael
