    Default How to block google-analytics

    For some reason, I have great difficulties with google-analytics. It bogs my system down for 2 - 3 minutes as it does whatever it does. I would like to try blocking it. How would I go about doing that? Thanks!

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:8.0
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    Try adding both google-analytics.com and www.google-analytics.com as blocked in the firewall.
    You may find some sites will break or not load properly.

    You could add google-analytics.com and www.google-analytics.com both as 127.0.0.1 to the windows host file. This will also work.

    Also other google things not particularly wanted are:

    google_ads
    google_ad
    googleads
    googlead
    google.*.adfetch.
    google.*/adfetch
    googleadservices
    googlesyndication.*
    pagead.
    pageads.
    services.google.com
    pagead2.googlesyndication.
    pagecount.*
    pagead.googlesyndication.com.
    pagead2.googlesyndication.com.
    ssl.google-analytics.com
    www.googleadservices.com
    www.google.com/logos/Logo

    you could do some checking around for the correct domain names or just add these to specific filters such as the AdBlock for the Firefox or IE Pro for the Internet Explorer.

    This filter works in Privoxy, if you want to try something a little more complicated:

    { +block +handle-as-empty-document }

    s|<script\s[^>]*?google-analytics.com/urchin.js[^>]*>.*?</script>||gif
    s|\urchinTracker\(\);||gif

    or even just this will work:

    { +block +handle-as-empty-document }

    .google-analytics.com/urchin.js

    there are other possible filters for google in Privoxy (even the google items in the above list I edited from Privoxy to show you), but none of these will properly show in the post. But the possibilities are all there.

    Thanks Oldsod! I knew one of you gurus would come through for me!

    Those ideas give me a great starting point to deal with this annoyance.
