My thanks to the othe poster.
Now, I don't feel so inept..
I have tried and tried to resove the issue but give up.
The instructions are to broad for me.

My husband and I built our new computer from "Barebone" from parts ordered.I am afraid to do anything to goof it
    up.

Perhaps ZoneAlarm is great for business and people who have a lot of private information stored on their computer, However,
that i not the case for me.
I am lucky that I don't have far to walk to turn the Zonealarm off and then onHowever, the trouble defeats the ease of file sharing and
    my ego is wounded

The IP of each other computer must be set into the Zones of the Firewall of the ZoneAlarm as Trusted, along with the IP of the router set as Trusted.
The Trusted Zone Security slider should be at the middle level, not at the high level.
Also set the ZoneAlarm Program Control slider to the middle level before attempting the file sharing.

    Now try it.

The exact programs to be exempted are all seen in the logs of the Zone Alarm when the lock is not used and the file sharing is used.
The programs seen involved in the file sharing events then can be exempted and set up in the pass lock.
This is by your best answer foir the exact files required for the pass lock or be enabled to apss through the internet lock.

    I suspect things like rundll32.exe, explorer.exe, services.exe, csrss.exe, dllhost.exe, cidaemon.exe, spoolsv.exe, winlogon.exe, userinit.exe, logonui.exe, svchost.exe, lsass.exe, smss.exe, and a few others may be seen.
Along with the usual executible files for the printer software.

    Yaaaaaa
I am almost to embarrassed to reply.Yes, it worked....simple!!!I didn't realize that the XP pro IP was entered into the Zone as defult.and I didn't read the Vista IP correctly.
    I.e
IPv4 IP address as opposed to IPv4 Default gateway
I spent a lot of time trying to find the IP in XP and never did find it
In Vista, I just go to Network/Sharing, connections, details. etc.
I was just to scared to enter a wrong address and have the computer crash.
Thank you so much for your assistance and
    help

Yes! you can do it and it works okay!
You should be proud of yourself!

P.S. the IP can be found using the 'ipconfig /all' command (no quotation marks).

    Best regards.
