    Default Repeating svchost alert

I have a problem with my ZAP often displaying an alert stating that svchost is requesting server access...
This happens on my laptop about once or twice a week just after start-up. It is legitimately Generic Host Process, and not malware, but despite checking "Remember This Setting," I continually receive this Repeat Program Alert on a regular basis.

Should I set Generic Host Process to a "Changes Frequently" setting in order to stop this annoying pop-up?

    Thanks,
    Here's the alert info:

Program Name Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
    Filename svchost.exe
    Program Version 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)
    Program Size 14336
    Program MD5 8f078ae4ed187aaabc0a305146de6716
    Date Modified Aug-04-2004 11:00:00 AM
    Connect Type Server
    Local Port 135
    Remote IP Address 0.0.0.0
Alert Date Feb-18-2009 08:17:40 PM PST

    "svchost.exe" located in C:\WINDOWS\system32

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:6.5

    ScreamingMonkey,

In your program listing for Generic Host svchost.exe do you have it set as Trust Level 3 green bars, green checks for trusted access, internet access and trusted server?

I believe it was X (3 Green bars, all checks, but with an X on Send Mail)...
I have since changed it to X X according to something I read on another thread. I am hoping this does the trick, but if not I will be back here soon.

    Thanks !

    Hi ScreamingMonkey,

If your settings are not being remembered, then sounds like your database is corrupted. Have you tried resetting the database? Do you have a backup of your settings to a date prior to when the problem started, so that you can restore to an earlier date?

    Hi Findley,

I have since installed a new hard drive on my laptop and, hence, reinstalled EVERYTHING. I do keep a backup, and since configuring SVC HOST as you advised, it has not given me any more problems. ---

    Thanks for your help!
