Default Error Message with Antivirus Scan

Every night I run an antivirus scan via Zone Alarm Security Suite.
I keep getting the message:
vsmon.exe -- Application error:The instruction at "0x7c901010".
Referenced memory.
"0x017232d4".
The memory could not be "read".
Then when I click on OK, it says:"The instruction at "0x7c9010f3".
Referenced memory at "0x017232c8".
The memory could not be "written".
Anyone know what all this means?

Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition

Big Dawg,Here's the info you asked for.
I'm not running any other security programs.
I used to run Norton Antivirus along with Zone Alarm Pro, but I completely removed Norton from my system and installed ZASS about two weeks ago.
Last night, my antivirus scan never completed.
When I finally looked at the "progress" box after 1hr58min, it said the scan was idle.

ZoneAlarm Security Suite version:7.0.302.000
TrueVector version:7.0.302.000
Driver version:7.0.302.000
Anti-virus engine version:3
Anti-virus signature DAT file version:20070219072000
Anti-spyware engine version:5.0.162.0
Anti-spyware signature DAT file version:01.200702.1015
AntiSpam version:4.9.1.8203
ZASS did quarantine a virus about 4-5 days ago.
Since it discovered the virus during a scan, that's when I changed the settings to run the scan every night.
The next night this problem occurred when the scan ran.
I then deleted the virus, thinking that might have something to do with it but the problem is still occurring.
Don't remember the name of the virus but it was one that's been around a long time which made me wonder why ZASS didn't pick it up whenever it came onto my PC.

Hi!your ZASS looks OK, you are not experiencing the problems as others....Have you tried to scan for viruses in safe mode? (how to start in safe mode: here)Scanning in SAFE MODE can get rid of addittional malware that may be resistant to NORMAL MODE.Cheers,Fax

I tried the scan in Safe Mode and to the point that I stopped it, it had found nothing.
I stopped it because I have an 80GB C hard drive with 53GB free space.
3.5 hrs. later, ZASS in Safe Mode was still scanning the C drive.
I also have a 250 GB secondary hard drive.
When I performed antivirus scans with Norton Antivirus, they never took longer than 1.5 hrs. to scan the entire system.

Hi!yes, KAV engine does a pretty in-depth check on files and if you have rar, zip, compressed files it will take longer since it will decompress on the fly and check all files in it...something that norton does not do on all compressed files...Fax

What is KAV engine?
And, are your telling me that I should expect scans to take longer than 3.5 hrs every time they're performed?
Or, hopefully, was that just in Safe Mode?

Hi!KAV is the new antivirus engine that is now shipped with ZASS 7It is supplied by Kaspersky, one of the best AV on the market nowadays.Computer Associates (CA) was the engine in 6.5, overall quite weak against spyware, trojan and 0day malware.... yes it is fast but detection below average.I would rather prefer a slower engine that a faster engine that will miss potential threads.Yes, it can take longer depending on the amount of data to be scanned and the type of data. But you do not need to scan your HDs every day nor even every weekgranted thatyou keep your AV updated and active. And if KAV engine managed to perform a full scan in SAFE MODE and not in Normal mode it means that there is another application that is conflicting with it (e.g. accessing file at the same time as KAV).Cheers,Fax

Hi luvmaui, Welcome to the Zone Alarm User Forum..

I agree with the advise Guru Fax gave you..

You mentioned in an earlier response that You had Removed Norton NAV..?

Did you just use the Windows ADD/Remove?

Or did you also Download the Norton Removal Tool from Symantec?

Both Sysmatec/Norton and McAfee leave lots of traces of their Programs in your registry and even on your HDD,

after the Normal ADD/Remove has deleted the Install, which can cause Conflict with Other Anti-Virus Programs..

"symNRT.exe" isavailable on the Symantec website. Go to www.symantec.com and in the search box in the upper right corner type "norton removal tool" ***Be aware this WILL REMOVE ALL NORTON PRODUCTS dating back to 2003 from your PC whether it's NAV, Systemworks, Norton Security, or whatever

I would recomend running the Norton Removal tool just to make sure all Norton traces are gone..

and If you've everinstalled McAfee Security or Anti-Virus on you computer, the download the McAfee Removal tool from www.mcafee.com and run it too..

Please Post back if you need further help..
