    Default Bios Alarm

Over the last couple of weeks I have had the bios alarm go off about 6/7 times. Each time I shut down all apps, close Win and reboot. When restarting has finished I do a full virus and spyware scan but nothing is detected. Any ideas or or suggestions please.

Normally, a BIOS alarm is os-independent.

Can you remember, which kind of BIOS error appeared on the screen? Which PC/notebook model do you have?

It is a two tone sound without messages on a desktop DIY system.

Might be caused by a failing hard disk drive and not a software issue. Any other strange noise caused by your system?

Success I think. After downloading a test utility for the hard drive, which was OK, I looked inside the case to find that under all the dust a heat sink on a chip (poss Bios, not CPU) had lost one of its retaining lugs and was hanging off. After giving it a good cleaning and binning the heat sink (can't refix it) I am hoping it does not reoccur. If it does I will either get a new board or fix in another fan. Thank you for your help.
