    Default Missing IE Shell Extension

I just renewed/upgraded to ZA Internet Security Suite v 7.0.408.000. I used to be able to right click on a file and select the 'Scan with ZA Antivirus' from the drop down menu. Now that option is there (grayed out) and not selectable. I would welcome any ideas on how to fix it. I'd prefer to edit the registry before having to uninstall/reinstall. thanks,

    Jeff

    Hi,

    Welcome to the Forum!

I am very sorry that you are having issues with ZA and hopefully I will be able to help you find a solution.

PLEASE try the following, as this will bring the firewall back to the original settings.

I think is your Zone Alarm database has gotten corrupt and does not remember your Zones settings. Reset your database and see if that will fix it. Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

MAKE SURE you remove ALL the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files.

Reset the database this way; you will lose your customizations and will need to reconfigure Zone Alarm.

    1. Boot your computer into the Safe Mode.

    2. Navigate to the c:\windows\internet logs folder.

    3. Delete the backup.rdb and iamdb.rdb files in the folder.

    4.Then empty the Recycle Bin.

    5. Reboot into the normal mode.

How Do I Boot Into Safe Mode?

Did what you suggested. After reboot, Config was reset as you said: it recognized new home network and reset programs back to just a few. Now I have the red Windows Security Alert icon in the tray telling me windows firewall is off, (which it's supposed to be). ZA overview status indicates all systems are green/checked. ZA shell extension is still grayed out when right clicking on a file or directory. Should I restore the two files I deleted (I saved copies in a new directory on the desktop before deleting) or try something else? I also set a restore point before this change, but I suspect that will be of no help going back.

    Thanks for your help.

Follow up: After second reboot Windows security warning has been eliminated from tray.... but still no joy with right click/scan capability.

    Hi,

May I suggest the following PLEASE?

Have you checked lately for any type of Nasty Bugs that might have gotten into your computer, if not you may want to check that out by completing an online scan for bugs, but that is your decision.

PLEASE go to the following site and download Ewido. Here is the link and the instructions. PLEASE keep me updated on your results. If you prefer not to download the program, they give you an option to complete a FREE online scan. Your choice!

    http://www.ewido.net/en/

After the installaton, search for updates and download any available. Start your computer in safe mode, open Ewido press scanner, complete system scan, fix anything that is found, next run a full virus scan also fix any problems you have. Restart your computer normally and run some more scans with Ewido and your virus scanner, to make sure your clean. If after the second round of scans the trojan still exist we will have to turn off system restore, go back into safe mode again going through the same procedure as before but see if this works first.

If You have anything NASTY installed on your computer this site will find it and remove it for you, unless it is something that they can not fix, but let's hope that is not the case here.

PLEASE keep me posted on your results, THANKS.

Note: ewido is now part of the Grisoft family. Followed your instructions... downloaded ewido (now AVG) and scanned... found 3 bugs.... I do full ZA scan once a week, so either they are very recent or undetected by ZA). Reboot, scanned again... same issue...ZA shell extension grayed out.

Decided to reinstall...did Clean install, updated and rebooted..... same issue.... BUT... after second reboot, the Shell Extension was there and working. I hope you can glean something from this to help others. Thanks for your suggestions... Much appreciated.
