Default Anti Virus Kills HD/PC Performance with large files

I have a brand new PC with Vista, installed ZA suite and all was working fine even many reboots. I copied across a few large files from my old PC and rebooted, PC was running really slow (unusable) HD thrashing constantly (tried 3-4 reboots and leaving for 1-2 hrs per reboot.
I unplugged the network and booted in safe mode, uninstall ZA and PC worked fine, reinstalled ZA and just elected for the Firewall, again ok, I switched on the VC and enabled drive by drive until I hit the drive with the files on. Then PC is back in an unsable state, I have the "Do not scan anything larger than 8 mg
set and all these files are large ISO images so should not even be scanned.
I've seen this Issue before on my old PC (win xp sp2) when I've copied large files from an external drive to my PC and the PC ran really slow, I managed to run up filemon and saw ZA VC making thousands of IO reads against the large ISO file. Deleted the files and no problems.
I am guessing this is the same Issue still. I'm using ZA Suite V7.1.078. Any ideas on how to get this sorted?

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:7.1 (Vista)
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Antivirus

I'm running XP and have the same problem. Everything was fine for weeks, then I/O thrashing that caused program load times to skyrocket. My solution: change Program Control > SmartDefense Advisor from Auto to Manual. Same protection, a few more popups (initially), and NO I/O thrashing.
