Thread: File 'adcom.dll' found in a ZoneLabs folder

Default File 'adcom.dll' found in a ZoneLabs folder

Spyhunter keeps finding ADCOM.DLL in the c:\system32\zonelabs\ folder. Describing it as "YouCouldWinThis", an
"adware toolbar that generates popup advertising, instals disasterous malware and
and adds http://awbeta.net-nucleus.com to the IE Trusted Zone. It is related to NetRevenueStream.com".
Who know whether this is a false-positive or if I should delete it?

    Operating System:Windows XP Pro
    Software Version:6.5
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

I have this .dll in the same folder, and I am also using ZASS 6.5. The file I have is 572 kb in size, it is a Computer Associates file, version 1.0.0.7.

If you like, you can scan this file at virustotal.com, but if you look at the properties of your dll and it is like mine, I would say it is legit. When in doubt, virustotal.com is a good place to get a second opinion.

By the way, when I right clicked on the file to look at it's properties, ZA's OS Firewall popped up a warning that Windows explorer was prevented from changing the behavior of ZASS by modifying the behavior of adcom.dll. You probably wouldn't be able to delete this file even if you wanted to...ZASS probably wouldn't let you do it. :-)

Hi!for your information SpyHunter was listed as rouge spyware application... even if they don't now I would not trust 100% this application. There are better (and free) applications to check for spyware... this seems just a false positive... Cheers,Fax

What version of ZASS do you have? Both the person who started this thread and I have 6.5, which uses the Computer Associates antivirus software. This adcom.dll is a Computer Associates file. If you are using a 7.x version of ZASS, you wouldn't have any Computer Associates files on your system. Your antivirus would be Kapersky.

Thanks GURU 'fax' for your input. My (unregistered) SpyHunter is duly zapped. And thanks 'amethist' for the CA file I/D and the (impressive) 'Total Virus' link.
