Hi!was it an upgrade from which version?Did you choose upgrade (keeping previous settings) or clean install? And are you running any other security tool? It is important since latest version does not play nice with many security tools.Cheers,Fax

Oooops, your PC is crowded of security tools...Really difficult to assess where is the problem and if the problem is due to ZA.Also some of this tools are known to mess up with the registry.... I will notmention the name.Registry is important for the correct identification or proxy or not proxy issues and connections.Check also in the antivirus log for errors like proxy enabled or specifc failure. Here:C:\Windows\System32\ZoneLabs\avsys\_updLog.tx tWell, lets try to forget you have all of this installed and I will suggest you some steps you can take. But please we aware that it may not work. The best is to remove all active tools (active either at boot or in OS services part), run ccleaner and reinstall ZA.1. Delete temporary filesUpdating problems can be caused by corrupted update definitions files. Please follow the steps below to remove an invalid update signature, then run the update again. Please proceed with the following:

    Delete the ZoneAlarm Updates files:
    1. Shutdown ZoneAlarm by right clicking the "Z" or "ZA" icon in the tray near the clock and choosing "Shutdown"
    2. Click Start and open My Computer/Computer
    3. Click on Tools, Folder Options, View Tab, and put a dot next to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
NOTE: If you cannot see the menu bar with the Tools menu on it, you have to press the Alt-key on the keyboard and the menu bar should then be visible.
    4. Remove the check from Hide Protected Operating System Files, click Yes to the warning, then click OK.
    5. Double click the Windows folder
    6. Double click the System32 folder
    7. Double click the ZoneLabs folder
    8. Double click the Updates folder
    9. Delete all files and folders inside this "Updates" folder
    10. Close My Computer/Computer

Next, empty the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files:
    11. Close Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
    12. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
    13. On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
    14. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
    15. Click OK.

RESTART THE COMPUTER, open ZoneAlarm and go to AntiVirus/AntiSpyware on the left and the Main tab near the top right and click Update Now. If the update completes successfully you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions below.

    2. PROXY CHECK:
Are you using a proxy server? Some Internet providers like TPG use proxies to connect to websites.

To check if you are using a proxy server please open Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options and then the Connections tab.

    If You Use Dialup:
If you use dial-up, a dialup connection will be displayed in the "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" area. Please select the dial-up connection and click the Settings button.
If a proxy server is being used, the "Proxy Server" section will contain a tick and there will be settings shown in the Address and Port areas. Please take a note of these settings.

If You Use Broadband or Are On a Network:
If you use Broadband or are on a network, please click the LAN Settings button.
If a proxy server is being used, the "Proxy Server" section will contain a tick and there will be settings shown in the Address and Port areas. Please take a note of these settings.

IF, and only if, you are using a proxy, please configure ZoneAlarm to the Proxy Server as well. Open ZoneAlarm and go to Overview on the left, Preferences near the top right and click the Options button. Under Proxy Configuration tick the "Enable Proxy Server" option and enter in the Proxy Server and Port information. When done, click the OK button and close the ZoneAlarm window.

Open ZoneAlarm and go to AntiVirus/AntiSpyware on the left and the Main tab near the top right and click Update Now. If the update completes successfully you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions below.

    3. Reset ZA settings

Update problems may be related to corrupted or incorrect settings, try to reset the settings. Please follow the steps below:1.) Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys together
2.) Right click on the ZA icon near your clock
3.) Choose 'Reset' from the box that comes up
4.) Choose Yes on the Reset Settings dialog box
5.) When prompted, choose OK to restart your system
6.) Follow the on screen configuration prompts after reboot

Open ZoneAlarm and go to AntiVirus/AntiSpyware on the left and the Main tab near the top right and click Update Now. If the update completes successfully you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions below.

    4. CLEAN REMOVAL:
If the problem remains and the update was not successful, download the latest ZoneAlarm setup file (if you do not already have it) and uninstall your current ZoneAlarm installation using the following Clean uninstall method described below and then reinstall it again afterwards.<xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o><P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0cm 0cm 0pt; LINE-HEIGHT: 11pt; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto">IMPORTANT - If you have a Cisco VPN client installed, you must first uninstall the VPN client, then follow the instructions below, and reinstall the Cisco VPN client again afterwards.
