Default ZASS 6.1 AntiSpyware doesnt update-No error messages

Hello:

I use Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite: 6.1.744.001.

AV updates regularly.

AntiSpyware remains at : April 4

DAT File version: 01.200804.3615 which is quite a bit below where it should be

When I run: Update Now, the update process for AS continues in "checking" mode for ~2minutes then gives reading: "AS update completed". No error messages. But no new update for AS is installed.

What might be causing this and how should it be resolved?

Thanks in advance:

-Eliuri

Problems running Update due to corrupted file ("Task has encountered an error&quot

1) Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\ZoneLabs\Updates

2) Delete all files

3) Re-run Update

Thanks Hammer.

BUT

There is no such folder named : "UPDATES" in Windows\System32\ZoneLabs in ZASS 6.1

No folder named: C:\Windows\System32\ZoneLabs\Updates exists in ZASS 6.1.744.001.

I've set folder view to see hidden files and folders and to see system files, yet I can't find the UPDATES folder for Zone Alarm. Perhaps this is a folder which exists only in later versions of Zone Alarm?

Also, I get no error messages whatsoever when I update. THe update completes , but the version remains the same.

I was hoping that version 6.1 would be sufficiently similare to version 7.0 but I guess not. Sorry.

Since you are running Windows XP, if you have Updated WinXP to Sevice Pack Two (SP2) and any other Microsoft Updates..Then it is time for you to Update ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.470.000Just like Auto manufacturers like Ford and ChevyStop supporting there older model Cars.. Software providers do the same thing once New Versions of their software is releasedHere is a Public Notice by Checkpoint about discontinuing Sopport for older Win95/98/ME and the possibility of stoping support for eny version of ZoneAlarm before Ver 6.5..
Windows 98/98SE/Me Support Discontinued

Dear Windows 98/98SE/Me Customer,

ZoneAlarm supports a balanced, multi-layered approach to security. An important part of this approach includes keeping software updated with the latest security patches.

Support Discontinued[/B]
On July 11, 2006, Microsoft will end support for Windows 98, 98SE and Me, which will have the resulting effect of making these operating systems less secure (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/sup...ofsupport.mspx). Windows 98/Me are older operating systems, and are therefore inherently more vulnerable to attacks than newer operating systems. Now that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates to these operating systems any PC running them will become increasingly prone to security vulnerabilities.

Accordingly, ZoneAlarm will cease to support Windows 98/98SE/Me with the introduction of our version 6.5 ZoneAlarm family of products[/B] including ZoneAlarm
Internet Security Suite, ZoneAlarm
Pro, ZoneAlarm
Antivirus, ZoneAlarm
Anti-Spyware, and ZoneAlarm
.
Note about pre-6.5 ZoneAlarmproducts:

Pre-6.5 products will continue to run on the Windows 98/98SE/Me operating system. However, there are a few new and advanced protection features in ZoneAlarm products that will not run due to technical limitations of this operating system. ZoneAlarm strongly recommends upgrading to a supported and current version of the Windows operating system.
ZoneAlarm may end services to pre-6.5 products at any time.
[/list]
Try a clean unistall of the program then reinstall the program.....

1.) Download a Current Copy of Zone Alarm Security Suite from
ZA website in the release history section.

http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...seHistory.html

2.) Go into ZA Overview/Preferences and Un-Check "Load Zone Alarm on Startup"
3.) Reboot Computer to Remove Zone Alarm drivers from Memory..
4.) Temporarily shut down any other AV/AS Security programs that May Conflict with ZA Install

5..) Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs
RIGHT-click on Uninstall Zone Labs Security, then select Properties.
Under Target you will see the following line (the actual drive may be different on your system):
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"
Change it to:
"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean /rmlicense (add a space and then the /clean)
Click OK to save the new command line.
Click on Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall Zone Labs Security
Click OK to run the uninstaller, and OK any security alerts that pop up.
say "Yes when being prompted for the removal of all files and allow TrueVector to shut down.
- Reboot

Now Start again in the Safe mode and delete these files in the Windows Directory:

WINDOWS\ Internet Logs

Program Files\Zone Labs

WINDOWS\system32\ Zonelabs

Now Reboot

Using something like this Freeware CCleaner <--- http://www.ccleaner.com/download/bui...wnloading-slim
, will help do the cleanup as well on both the Hard drive and the Registry .

Now Re-install the ZASS program now. Accept the Default Setting, Auto-Learn Mode and Choose Trusted Zone, not Internet Zone..Good Luck..--------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for your reply George.

I understand that it is possible that Checkpoint will withdraw support from its earlier versions at some point.

However, the AV component of the ZASS is working perfectly with several updates daily, both automatic and manual. It even detected and instantly treated some malware about a week ago.

There has been another post a day or so ago on this forum by jilocke:

http://forums.zonealarm.com/zonelabs...ssage.id=28305

describing this exact problem on a 7.1 version of ZASS. I notice that his/her latest AntiSpyware update was on April 3 , and mine was on April 4. This would suggest a similar problem. So far no one has responded to jilocke's post.

I'm hesitant to upgrade at this point, since I'm reading of so many problems on the forum during and after the clean installation process. If it were a simple upgrade over 6.1, I'd go ahead and do it.

But since the Firewall, AntiVirus and Spam Guard in 6.1 are all working flawlessly, I'd rather wait till there is further clarification on this AS question.

TIA

-Eliuri

All the ZAAV and ZASS with Anti-Virus Version before Version 7.0 for XP and 7.1 for Vista used "CA" Computer & Associates..Definitions..Begining with Version 7.0 and 7.1 for Vista.. Checkpoint droped "CA" and contracted with Kaspersky and use the AV Engine from Kaskersky.com and hourly updates from KasperskyI don't know how long the old Contractual agreement with the old "CA" agreement last, but when it runs out I think Support for updated AV/AS for the o;d version of ZA will stop? You can contact ZA Customer Service for more official notice.. at: www.zonealarm.com/csform--------------------------------------------------------
