    Default Zone Alarm Constantly Updating

I have Zone Alarm Security Suite and lately (since the Microsoft incident) it is updating every couple of hours.
And lately these updates take about a 1/2 hour to complete and I cannot do anything with my computer during this time.
I was trying to update my GPS with new mapping software and twice while doing this Zone Alarm
started updating and it just froze the computer for an hour.
I switched update to manual and it is still updating.
How does one turn this off.
When I look at the Z on the bottom right corner of my screen it will have a curved arrow over it and when I point to it with my mouse it will say updating.

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Software Version:
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

Did you change both ( program and AV/AS to man. update ) It should notupdate unless you check for updates if all is set to man. updates...

    Thanks for the reply.
In Overview/Preferences I checked Manually under Check for Updates.
This I take means if it can't check for updates it cannot update.

It really shouldn't take that long to update automatically. I assume you have a broadband connection which would mean that the longest update would take no more than one or two minutes.

Try the following for corrupted update files:
    1) Boot into Safe Mode

    2) Go to C:\Windows\System32\ZoneLabs\Updates

    3) Delete all files & folders

    4) Boot into Normal Mode

    5) Re-run Update (allow to update automatically)

If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to do a database reset:
    1) Ctrl + Shift right-click on ZoneAlarm System Tray icon

    2) Click Reset in popup box

    3) Click Yes in Reset Settings dialog box

    4) Click OK when prompted to reboot

    5) Follow onscreen prompts after reboot

I believe that's for the ZA
    program updates..
    There's also the Anti-Virus/Spyware:Main ZASS menu /
    Anti-Virus / Anti-Spyware / Advance options / updates
And uncheck auto Anti-Virus / Anti Spyware...
For you to check for updates
manually..You could also change when it will check for updates on up to 24 hrs.. I have mine setfor max @ 24hrs....
But if you have anything better than dial-up leaving all in auto should not take thatlong to update.... Atleast it does not take long with cable connection...
    Hope this helps

    Raideron and HammerNU,
Thanks so much for responding and your help.
    The computer appears to be
    booting better with HammerNU suggestions.
I was just about to uninstall and re-install ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
A XP file was also corrupted and I tried to do a system restore under User and after restore the computer would not boot up.
I then did a system restore under Administrator and it would boot up but took a long time to boot up.
As I said I was just about to do a uninstall and re-install when I tried HammerNU's suggestions.
This is the second time that I was installing a program ZoneAlarm update kicked in.
It shouldn't do it because it screwed up my system files.
