    Default Cannot Download Virus Updates

    I am running ISS ver. 7.0.483.000 on Windows XP Ser Pack 2 on a home network. It is authorized for 3 computers. It will update the virus definitions on my desk top but not on the laptop connected through a wireless router (internet and e-mail function okay). I have 187 days left on my registration.

    When I try to update I get a cannot connect message or the viruses and a timed out message for the spyware. I have compared all the setting I can think of on the desk top and lap top and they are the same.

    OS firewall is turned off, using the ZA firewall.

    Any suggestions?

    John

    Operating System:Windows XP Home Edition
    Product Name:ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite

    Your update files may be corrupted. Do the following:
    1) Boot into Safe Mode

    2) Go to C:\Windows\System32\ZoneLabs\Updates

    3) Delete all files & folders

    4) Boot into Normal Mode

    5) Re-run Update

    If that doesn't fix the problem, you will need to do a database reset:
    1) Ctrl + Shift right-click on ZoneAlarm System Tray icon

    2) Click Reset in popup box

    3) Click Yes in Reset Settings dialog box

    4) Click OK when prompted to reboot

    5) Follow onscreen prompts after reboot

    I'm having the same problem. When I try to update my Anti virus and anti spyware the updater can't connect. I've tried doing what was mentioned here but it still doesn't work. Any further suggestions?

    Well Mr. Bunny (Barking),

    Make sure you are not actively running any other security software. Many other products are know to conflict with ZoneAlarm (McAfee, Norton, AdAware, SpySweeper, etc.). Make sure your ZoneAlarm Firewall sliders are set to High for the Internet zone and Medium for the Trusted zone. In the Firewall Zones, you should have entries for your Network, Loopback Adapter, DHCP server, and DNS server(s), all Trusted.

    The next thing I would recommend is a clean uninstall followed by a reinstall. Do the following:
    1) Reboot into Safe Mode

    2) Append " /clean" (without quotes) to ZoneAlarm uninstall shortcut Target field

    New Target field: "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

    3) Uninstall from shortcut;

    when ZoneAlarm requests a reboot, reboot into Safe Mode with Internet

    4) http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...message.id=103

    5) Install ZoneAlarm in Safe Mode with or without Internet;

    when ZoneAlarm requests a reboot, reboot into Normal Mode

    Post back with your results.

    Hi

    Thanks for the reply. There is no entry for DNS server in my firewall and idea how I'd add that in?

    For DNS server(s) (may be one or more), go to Start > Run, type in "cmd" (without quotes) and click OK, then enter "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) and hit Enter. One or more DNS IP addresses will be listed.

    In ZoneAlarm, go to Firewall > Zones, click the Add button, choose IP Address, then select the Trusted Zone and enter the DNS IP address. Do this for each DNS entry.

    Report back if this solves your problem.

    Hi, I run through the procedure listed above. Still can't connect to get the updates for anti-virus and anti-spyware. Did it a second time to be sure I'd followed it through properly with the same result. Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks

    At this point I would recommend a clean uninstall followed by a reinstall as mentioned in my second post in this thread. Here are the instructions again with one extra comment:
    1) Reboot into Safe Mode

    2) Append " /clean" (without quotes) to ZoneAlarm uninstall shortcut Target field

    New Target field: "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

    3) Uninstall from shortcut;

    when ZoneAlarm requests a reboot, reboot into Safe Mode with Networking

    4) http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/b...message.id=103

    (begin after the 2nd *REBOOT)

    5) Install ZoneAlarm in Safe Mode with or without Networking;

    when ZoneAlarm requests a reboot, reboot into Normal Mode

    Hi!I have the same problem and have had contact with several computers that have the same problem.All but one has been possible to fix.

    I have done all the things you sugested<ul>[*]Reset of Database by the new way[*]Erase the complete program entirely[*]Reinstall in Safe mode[/list]

    I have tried
    this several times.

    excuse me for saing this but:

    I work at a computer department and
    creates software, it seems to me that you lack error handling in the program otherwise you wouldn't have to guess what's wrong

    Yes, I'm a bit annoyed and if it wasn't for that it otherwise is a good program. I would have left this a long time ago.
