Updated to ZAAV V8 and Scan found "not-a-virus:FraudTool.Win32.SpyAway.ag" in "C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX"

    Real or false positive?

    Operating System:Windows Vista Home Premium
    Software Version:8.0

I have the exact same message:
    "not-a-virus:FraudTool.Win32.SpyAway.ag was found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX"

It just came up a few minutes ago. I upgraded to version 8 yesterday and ran a scan and nothing came up. Very strange.

So what's up, is this real or false?

I have asked a question via the formal support channel as well. I will post back here with the answer.

    I had the
    same message:
    "not-a-virus:FraudTool.Win32.SpyAway.ag was found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\MSCOMCTL.OCX"

I upgraded to version 8 one hour ago and had 4 intances in a scan.

I have been on V8 for a couple of days, and had previously run scans without this showing up, so I am expecting ZoneAlarm/ZoneLabs/CheckPoint to come back that it is a false positive due to an error in a AV signature file update.

I'll let you know what I find out.

I received the same message associated with a scan on two machines. The message appeared immediately after applying recent Windows Update patches. I am still running version 7 of ZoneAlarm and Windows XP.

I have not applied any Windows Update patches, and the evidence that it is happing on both XP and Vista, on both V7 and V8, leads me to believe that it is a AV signature update error in ZA and quite probably a false positive.

I just copied "MSCOMCTL.OCX" from another system, and it also was identified as spy ware. The file I copied has a valid digital signature, so this does look like a FALSE positive.

I got a response from ZoneLabs. They were unable to recreate this issue on their PC with the same AV DAT file.

I still believe this is a false positive, so I sent the my copy of MSCOMCTL.OCX as a zipped file.

    More will be revealed...

Looks like it has been "fixed".

ERROR - Anti-virus DAT file version 958244092 (and at least one or two before, perhaps some after)
    OK - Anti-virus DAT file version 958250849
